Just to add some perspective, my 14 50i is at the dealer getting valve stem seal job. I don’t even want to know how much that would run if I still wasn’t under factory warranty. I purchased my warranty through autopom and they gave me a good deal on mercury insurance group $4096 for 3yr. 75k platinum warranty.

This is what I was quoted through the Credit Union I financed with. I've called 3 times to confirm pricing (as it seams to good to be true) and that the yr/mileage is from the date the warranty is purchased. I purchased a wheel and tire warranty through the same company (EFG) when I bought my CTS-V. It more than paid for itself and they always paid for the repair/replacement without hesitation. I realize I'm comparing apples to oranges here but my experience with them has been excellent none the less. I did get a quote from a BMW dealership in Louisiana for a 3rd party ext. warranty that was almost half of what the BMW extended warranty was. I wrote down the #'s but I cannot find them anywhere. The finance guy actually said it was better than the ext. warranty through BMW as it covered more things. It has to purchased through the dealer but it was www.theldsgroup.com". I want to say the BMW ext. was 6,600 and the ldsgroup was around 3600

Yeah, i got all my work done at BMW Seattle and they covered everything up front - all the SA had to do was call them to get the work authorized and they'd give him a credit card # once the SA submitted the invoice. EFG (or "Enterprise Financial Group") seems to have been involved in a lawsuit with the state of MN. Does not appear to be regarding claim payout per se, but about refund policies. http://www.startribune.com/minnesota...ies/276990761/ If you're in the market for a 3rd party extended warranty, I'd recommend giving CNA a look. Two members from the E70 forum (jiggz and PAX5) have bought it, check with them. Also, given that you're local, go talk with the Finance mgr @ landmark motors (Brandon, i think). He claims to sell plans such as fidelity at $100 over cost; my friend bought an X3 from them and he gave us a good deal on a 8yr exclusionary plan. |

Confirmed those #'s again with the Credit Union and it is from the date and mileage the plan is purchased not from in service date. Asked my SA about the warranty co. and they have experience with them. So... I'm jumping all over it @ $2,667!

Killer deal. That premium plan looks to cover just about everything you'd need.

Just recently purchased a platinum extended warranty (84/100) from Jeff Steel @ Passport BMW in Camp Springs, MD. He was very upfront and had the best quote out of 6 dealerships I reached out to. I met him in person while I was down there for work and he was great! He's a busy guy, so I suggest email first to arrange the time.
Send him your mode/mileage/VIN for a quote. He will require your key for a key read to actually sell you the warranty. He can explain all the requirements when you reach out to him. JEFF STEEL PASSPORT BMW BUSINESS MANAGER jeff.steel@passportauto.com 301-702-6413 |

Got a quote from local dealer. I think it was like $6000+ for 72/100 Plat. I think I'll just save it for a rainy day fund.

Then I got busy and didn't do it until this month (my X5's warranty expires this month). This morning I called several dealers, suddenly they all quoted me $5799 for the same 72M/75k Platinum warranty ... and everyone is saying that $4799 quote must be a mistake ... What's going on? I can think of five possible explanations: 1. The $4799 quote was a mistake (but it does matches P1et's number exactly ...); 2. The $5799 quotes are all obtained by entering my VIN. So there is something about my particular car that raises the warranty premium (e.g., 28k low mileage, or having a minor accident with rear bumper replaced)? 3. BMW extended warranty has a different price if you purchase in the same month as original warranty expires (if so, shame on BMW); 4. BMW extended warranty price was raised very recently (I should've pulled the trigger last month) 5. All dealers I called today coincidentally added $1000 profit on top of $4799 MSRP at the same time? I'm very confused ... Last edited by echostate; 11-12-2018 at 09:10 PM.. |

Remember that an extended "warranty" on a used car is not really a warranty in that is not a warrant from the manufacturer that certain things will not break. More often it is a service contract between vehicle owner and a third party covering certain repair costs. It is a form of insurance for broken things.
When I bought my X15 last summer I also got, from the BMW finance guy, a "platinum" (these metal terms mean nothing) contract covering the vehicle for an incremental 5 years or incremental 75,000 miles. It cost $3100 and has a $200 deductible. I don't mind the deductible as it is a used car so I am willing to deal with minor mechanical issues which are a drop in the bucket compared to the purchase price of the vehicle. I hate going in for service and will not be popping by for every weird noise and rattle. What I want insurance for is major repairs, like the motor and transmission. I can afford to self-insure for small stuff. Keep in mind dealer know you idiots get bored and sell your cars after a couple years so they are will to throw in extra years of coverage for almost nothing and don't care that the car is more likely to have more issues in those later years. I plan to keep the vehicle the full five years and use the service contract if major repairs are needed. |

Just want to report back on what happened next: 1. Finally get hold of the dealer I originally contacted last month -- and they still honor the $4799 quote for platinum 72month/75k miles. I believe this is the "MSRP" price. Obviously all other dealers in my area are just ripping people off on warranty pricing (MSRP + 1000 is just insane). 2. Jeff Steel @ Passport BMW is great and offers very competitive pricing and relatively simple procedure if you don't mind purchasing remotely. Highly recommend. I am also considering to purchase a mechanical breakdown protection contract from my credit union. The contract is sold by Allied Solutions.
Our second vehicle in the family is a low mileage 2015 BMW X5 xDrive N55 with 21.6K mikes, accruing about 5K miles per year. The vehicle just came back from the dealer passing pre warranty expiration checks with flying colors. No codes, no problems. Contract being considered: plus 4 years, up to 60K miles. Price: $2500 with $50 deductible. My concerns are very similarly to what others have expressed. Should one major problem appear in 4 years - especially anything engine, AC, or xDrive related - the price paid will be more than worth it. Did anyone have experience with contracts sold and administered by Allied Solutions? |

CNA warranty
Keeping this older thread going. . .
I'm looking at a used 2016 X5 xdrive50i w/54k miles. For those that have the CNA coverage, what is excluded on their highest coverage plan? I can't seem to find it. Looking at Fidelity and CNA plans. thanks!
