I've taken my car back a couple times but they claim they can't replicate. It sounds like it's more prevalent now with colder weather. I actually heard the clunk from outside as my wife was turning to pull into slight incline driveway - it was LOUD outside. Almost scared me as I thought she ran over something. Almost sounds like 2 metal parts snapping into place.
Hopefully with enough of us complaining, they will take this more seriously. I honestly think the problem started with the dealer fixing my front control arm but they claim that everything looks fine etc. Thanks Quote:

I had similar thoughts as well and told my wife not to use Auto Hold feature but I don't think it's helped.

Just a quick update. While I am still skeptical, it seems like the noise may be gone after my 3rd trip back. Here's what they did: Chassis ears installed; retorqued thrust rod and lower control arm. They said it was about 3/4 turn loose. My guess is after they were installing the right control arm (warranty repair some time ago), they didn't properly torque some bolts. Hope the noise won't reoccur.

I read this whole thread while I had my car on the hoist - a lot of bolts to get the undertray and plastics off! I torqued all the relevant bolts - even the steering rack (brother said his e71 would make the same noise and it was rack bolts loose - but f15 is different bolts/mount). Anyone had a real outcome?

This just happened to my X6 50i at 28,000 miles. Making a jarring noise at 15-20 MPH going over bumps. I manage a fleet of vehicles, to me it sounded just like balls joints. Took it to my dealer, easy to replicate.
Solution, dealer had to install wishbones on both sides and a sway bar links. Problem solved, no more jarring noise. Now if someone could quiet those damn run flats. KP |

I encountered this similar issue on 16 X5 28 K miles. Only during Colder temps 30- 50 degrees while backing out of angled driveway with wheels turned right or left. The dealership replaced both axles under warranty and issue is resolved ---- currently.
Stock suspension with 21 inch Vorstenier staggered wheels. |

Bumping this thread. I have 48,500 miles on my 2015 and I am hearing creaking/moaning sounds from what seems to be the passenger side wheel. Very obvious at sub 15 mph speeds. Will take her in and see what’s going on.

Yep, same for me. 2015 X5d with 40k miles. Low speeds (~10 mph) coasting or very light throttle I'll get a clunk, clunk, clunk noise from the left front. Steering wheel doesn't need to be turned for it to happen, and it happens on smooth roads. Will need to take it in as well.

2015 BMW 328i with 38k miles - I used to hear the loud thump when I’m turning left or slowing down to park. I took to the dealership and as expected they couldn’t replicate it but checked everything ( changed wheel alignment ). Heard the same when taking it back from service! Left it alone for a month and didn’t seem to occur ( maybe due to some sunshine! ) and today after a 300 mile trip I was sitting in the car I hear two loud thumps simultaneously. I’m really perplexed as to what to explain to the dealer this time around.

Were any of you guys who had this problem able to get it diagnosed and fixed? Seems like it's control arms or wishbones? I need to bring my car into the dealer, but I don't want to be without my kid hauler for an extended amount of time. I have a 2015 x35I with 41K and it's making an odd sound below 30mph. It always shows up in bumper to bumper traffic. Sounds like popcorn popping or a cheap hotel coffee maker making coffee. |

I finally got the noise to come back after I took it in about a month ago and it decided to "fix itself". But now two days of noise and I managed a short video so I'm gonna take it back in and reference the SIB mentioned here and all the posts referring the issue to get them looking in the right direction without hassling me with not being able to hear it.

I just dropped it off today, and they did verify it was the wishbones. Glad I'm still under warranty. Is this going to be a reoccurring problem though? |
