Just wanted to share my little experiment, which works great for anyone looking to get a media blaster. I couldn't find anyone to do my N57, so I decided to tackle this myself. It is difficult to find the appropriate tubing to modify, but here it is and it is easy to build.
Harbor Freight: -Media Blaster ($34.99) -Merlin Air Blow Gun ($6.99) -Blast Media (use Fine!) ($27.99) Things around the house: -Hot Glue -Epoxy -any 3 Screws (but must tap after drilling, to tighten properly) -Drill Note: you can disconnect the media tube and use the gun as a air blower as well. This way, you can blow out any media lingering around as well. As for the intake port adapters, Google around. I found the 3D specs for an N57 and just had them printed out. This tube is the perfect size for getting in those intake ports and blasting (walnut fine). Just wanted to share in case anyone is looking to modify their own. Super easy DIY. |

Also, for you guys who want to attempt to do your own walnut blasting, don't waste your time trying to turn the engine manually.
Use an electrical home grade copper wire, gloves and tap the blue and yellow on your starter solenoid until you get your port closed, then knock it out. Your solenoid and starter sit next to your engine oil drain bolt. |

Sitting at 106k, it looked gunked-up. But the walnut blasting knocks it all off well. The only area that was a pain was the spot directly above the valve stem. The oil there gets coated so the walnut blasting was doing nothing. Grabbed a metal pick and broke it down, vacuumed the chunks, then walnut blasted and got it no problem.
