Code reader/ drivetrain malfunction
Had this pop up the other day after the dealer scanned and nothing at all came up. Wondering what the best value for a good code reader is to check it out, its coming up every startup so its faulting something for certain....

If you have the Bimmercode app for coding…you can purchase their sister “diagnostic” app (BimmerLink) and use the same dongle or hookup you use for the coding app. You can pull any fault code set by the SAE manufacturer codes as well as the OBD II mandate codes (which are emissions related) and are identifiable by the CEL (check engine light) illuminating.

I would vote for ISTA. As someone who has the NT530, I would say don't waist your money on it. Haven't tried Bimmerlink for code reading, but did use it for temp readouts on a transmission fill.
Cable wise, if you get the modBMW or mhd (black) wifi dongles you can use these with your laptop/ISTA and any phone/app. Saves you getting a ENET and a wifi dongle separately. You will need ENET cable if you plan on doing coding with like ESYS. |
