105AH Battery Replacement 2015 X5 i35x

Wife and I started the car one day to find a warning that the Time/Date needed entered. Research led me to believe the battery was dying. I have two BMW dealers, the close one is 2 hours and the other 3 hours. A quote was $465 from one dealer, the battery itself was quoted $202.

I bought an exact replacement at Batteries Plus Bulbs. I had to wait 10 days to get the battery and was able to nurse the old one till then. The 105ah battery appears to be made by East Penn, the OEM and the ultra duracell I bought. BCI H9/95R

$280 out the door with core rebate and 10% for ordering online and picking up in store. They also offer free install and battery registration. Over 600 stores with which to redeem a 4 year free replacement battery.

Battery registration wasn't completed due to their equipment failure. I have an Innova 3160g which accomplished the registration in a couple of minutes. Later at home I verified the exchange miles was registered with INSTA.

Due to our use cycle, short trips mostly, I'm goin to invest in a CTEK charger.

Thanks to all for information posted here on the forum.

I'll have to change batteries soon on my 14. But never seen anyone sell a half sized battery. My x5 has a full and half sized battery.

I believe the other is a 50ah battery.

Here's a post that talks about this.

Even though I do a lot of long distance driving and coasting that helps with recharging, I use a CTEK battery tender once a month at least. Battery still tests to be pretty good even though my N63 is suppose to be eating batteries.

I use chargers on all my equipment, generator and motorcycle and lawn mower. I get 6-7 years out of those batteries.

I've got a CTEK in my future, I'm trying to figure a way to make it so painless the wife will plug it in......

Permanent eyelets on the charging points and plug at the grill with the charger close by.

Are the CTEK chargers waterproof?

They make a marine one but the normal ones don't feel water proof.

I wouldn't want anything that would be plugged in to be near water lol. Even if water proof. Haha haha but no it's not.

I'll check the marine one out.

I was thinking it could be used with a shielded outdoor outlet to keep the line to the car short. The car will be under a carport. I see they have charging side extensions I may end up doing that.

I see after reading the product specs (duh!) the mx5 is IP65 proof, splash and dust.

2015 x35i.

Most our trips are 8 miles to town run some errands then back. Every two weeks a 25 mile trip to town then city drive for a couple hours then return. I turned off the start/stop.

I'm pretty sure we just don't put enough miles on it to keep it charged.

That's not that short of trips. Plus what is the manufacturer date of your x5? I'm guessing 2014. So 5 years out of the battery is not bad. I wouldn't mess with a charger unless it sits for long periods.

Build date of 02/15. 4 years for sure plus as a used vehicle it was on a lot for most of 6 months. That's the other reason we decided to replace it, we've a trip out west in a couple of weeks and I wanted to eliminate any on the road issues.

I have not bought the charger, we'll see how we do.

Question - you used an Innova device to register the battery? Is that correct? Thanks.
