All season run flats or no run flats for X5?
The age old question for BMW owners, - All season run flats or non-runflats for X5?
What are the best tires these days to replace the OEM 20" M Sport rims with? I normally buy Michelin Pilot 4 all seasons. Also seperate winter rims and tires require tire replacement. My other BMW's I've already switched to Non Run flats and felt better smoother ride but always worrying in the back of my mind because these cars have no spares... so always wise to carry a can of Fix a flat in the trunk... What have you guys done for tires on your X5's? |

I’ve stuck with RF, but ponder going with something else. The only thing I don’t like about NRF is that the X5’s suspension was tuned for RF. Seems reasonable that going NRF would soften the ride.
Regardless, buy a spare for the trunk and buy what you like. |

I just replaced my runflats with Conti DWS06+. Much quieter and comfort seems to be good. Haven't really tested out performance or anything seems to handle the wet pretty well. Was debating between this and the Michelin AS4's and these seem to have more comfort and should last longer. I personally don't love the tread pattern of the DWS06+ though. Always been a Michelin guy but we'll see how these hold up.

I have a very bumpy road to my home and RF are a no go for me. Unless you have a 7 seater you can easily fit BMW spare under trunk floor. As far as I recall X5M has NRF Michelins, so RFs are not necessarily the ultimate option for best handling.

Went from runflats to the dws06 a few years ago. Definitely a lot smoother ride, but less precise or sporty feeling, if that matters to you. They work great in snow too. They last longer too. Will never go back to runflats.

https://modernspare.com/ To me, the assumed increases in ride quality outweigh the ability to drive a short distance on a run flat. I'd rather have a spare to rely on. |

Another vote here for regular Continental DWS06 AS tires for this set-up. I’m so much happier with these than the Pirelli RFTs. I pay $100/year for roadside assistance which is cheaper than replacing one RFT (or all of them as the dealers will insist you must do). Once you drive any distance on a flat runflat tire, the tire is toast and cannot be fixed and remounted (the inside of the tire gets wrecked). This is the part BMW and other brands using RFTs neglect to tell you when you buy the car - they will not fix them. It makes getting a flat tire an insanely expensive problem unless you’re creative.

I was initially about to go with the Michelin AS4s but everything I was reading and all recommendations from friends was go with Conti DWS06+ here. Better comfort, tread life, and lower noise with good performance.

I put these on my 2015 X5 35d. Have had them for 6 months and around 5000 miles. Pleased so far. They are quiet, handle well, and show minimal tread wear after 5000 miles.

I've had a difficult time trying to find tires in those sizes - that I can afford & are good tires. I've bounced from the "Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT ROF" and the "Pirelli PZero RF" - both are expensive, don't last long, and definitely don't live up to the hype. |

Another dws 06+ convert here. They perform better than the Michelins in many aspects I care most about for a family wagon like the x5, plus they’re normally cheaper.
EDIT: it appears they don’t make the pilot sport all season 4 in 255/50/19 sizes. Oh well. And, it looks like the DWS 06+ does better in almost every category including the track performance. Not much of a reason to get the Michelins from what I can tell. https://m.tirerack.com/tires/tests/t...b=ResultCharts |

i went non-run flats while also increasing profile... 275/45/20 front and 305/40/20. big difference as my wife no longer complains about car sickness. she sits in the back with the baby and she would complain about it after going only 1 block. just did a couple hours drive with the new tires and no more car sickness!

Conti DWS 06 + is the best. Run flats are trash. Continental provides free roadside assistance and other benefits. There is no benefits with RF other than driving with no air. Tire options are also limited making the car lack in snow options on 20in size.

quite a long thread on DWS06 already and everyone switching to them. They last 2x as long, perform 2x as good, and are 5x quieter. They also come with a 50k mile warranty. Just replaced my fronts after 40k miles and got a sweet $150 off install. replaced the rears around 30k and got even more off. Great traction and even do great in the snow.
