AC always comes on?
Just wondering why this happens…
When I shut off my X5 lots of things are saved…seat position, radio volume, sound source, and climate control temp setting. If I turn the radio off and shut down the car it remains off next time I start it. However…the climate control always comes back on each time I start the car. Why is this? The owners manual talks about “profiles” and things that may be “saved” on them. But not how to “edit” profiles, only how to reset them to default values. Is there a way to program profiles? |

Climate always comes back on is default behavior.

You will need to code it. And there may be TWO coding parameters you need to change.
The fastest way to determine what and where you’ll need to code is…go to the Bimmercode.app website and click on the SUPPORTED CODING links for your model…then click on the heading in the alphabetized list for your model. It will show which control module the coding parameter can be found and what the coding will do. You probably want to select climate memory plus a climate AUTO memory setting (especially if you use the AUTO feature. Again, if you go to the website and access the info for supported coding…you’ll see what and which settings you need to code to get the system to operate as you are seeking. EDIT: I just checked and I do have an image in my pic stash of a AC coding selection…unfortunately I don’t remember if this was for the f15 or the f06…so you should still check the site to see which parameters are for the f15. But you can see that there is a selection to remember the last setting (red underlined text)…but there’s also a setting to code for the AUTO setting…you may want to do BOTH:

Thanks!
I’ve tried with BimmerCode, and it seems the selections it allows are strictly to “allow” the AC to be turned on automatically in auto mode and to “remember” whether the AC was turned on with the system on last time. These seem to only affect whether the AC compressor comes on, not whether the system itself stays on or off. Maybe there’s a way to do it in “EXPERT” mode, but I don’t see stuff on their site to access that. For instance, I know people have used it to activate the anti-glare for the LED headlights I have on my car, but I don’t see that in the options they have listed. |

It's expensive (relative) but you could try ProTool. I used it to enable the memory on my F32 and it works as intended (if I shut the fan off before leaving the car, it's still off when I return to it, regardless of time). The F15 is my wife's car and she likes the always auto on, for some reason.
I also have BimmerCode but I would get an error on the A/C ECU, so I could never try, at least on my F32. I initially purchased a Thor adaptor and ProTool to code my brakes but this thread reminded me to try again. So thanks! |

BTW, this coding is on the EASY side…so don’t be intimidated thinking you have to go into EXPERT mode. If you select “ACTIVE” in the memory setting coding parameter (the one underlined in RED in my previous post)…this should keep your AC/HEAT system off if you had it off the last time the engine was running. It will only come back on if it was ON when you shut the engine down. If you don’t have that control module mentioned in the desription, that’s the only way you won’t be able to code that parameter.

Yep, I have that module and it was coded to active when I checked with BimmerCode. That’s how I figured out it is memory for the AC compressor itself, not the whole climate control system.

Thanks for the update. Sorry it doesn’t work for you. My f06 is coded and if I cut off the IHKA control panel. It stays off if the system was off when I shut down.
Since that’s the vehicle I’m driving daily right now…perhaps I’m conflating that both my f06 & f15 works the same way. If I get a chance to drive the f15…I’ll check. BTW, to shut down the IHKA (climate control panel) I press the driver’s side fan speed button that lowers the fan speed until it’s at it’s lowest speed, then press the button one more time and the whole control panel shuts down (display goes blank).

Yep, that’s how I’m turning off the climate control. I’m going to experiment with some stuff the next couple times I drive it to see if I’m correct about a couple things. Not sure it’ll help me get closer to figuring this out, but at least it’ll confirm if I’m correct about at least something lol

Found it!
So, in BimmerCode under Air Conditioning went into “Expert” mode. IHKA showed up. Went into that and found “MEMORY_OFF”, changed that to active. This tells the car to remember the setting when the engine was shut off. Then also “MEMORY_UMLUFT” and changed that to inactive. This turns off the “fan always comes on” with ignition on. Edit- apparently for F15 you don’t need to do the “MEMORY_UMLUFT” part 👍 |

i just did this. I didn't have to touch the “MEMORY_UMLUFT”, left it as active and my fan doesn't come on.

Ahh, good to know. I had found a post where someone had done it on a different car and just adapted it to the F15. Will change mine back.
Oh, and I just realized…your original response to me had this method, but I had stopped reading the thread you posted when I got to the post that just mentioned the same options “regular” BimmerCode had. If I had just looked a couple posts below it…was…right…there. 🤦‍♂️😂 |

Why do you want it off? there is no engine starting drag from it being that way as it is staged off and back on again for engine start. I see this as good way to wear down the climate control button finish like happens to the START button. Or I'm grumpy.....

Calm down, grumpy old man 😉
Not wearing the finish off a button is why I want it to stay off if I have it turned off. I drive with windows down most of the time and was having to push the “lower fan speed” button each time I start it to turn it off. |

OK, I see that. I am in north Texas. This state only exists in 2023 as a year round inhabited space due to air conditioning. The idea that a/c ever gets turned off only enters my mind about two weeks per year. Even when it's not hot, winds from south assure the humidity needs to be managed for clear windows.
