Dogproofing the back end

So my sheepdog likes to jump in the back, but she often will stand on the painted surfaces of the back bumper or the tailgate if I'm not nearby to drop the tailgate.

It's convenient to be able to tell her to get in the car without having to go to it myself. I would like to protect those surfaces though. I wonder about some kind of foam backed adhesive chequerplate. Anyone gone down this path & have a good solution?

Tbh with you, the only thing I could think of that won't add a ridiculous diaper appearance to the rear end is PPF. The alternative option is one of those rubber rear bumper guards... I don't even know how much they protect your use case... I'm assuming you have an X5/X5M and not the X6/X6M, in which case PPF will be okay since you should be right there to drop the lower portion of the trunk before she jumps on. Having lived with both tailgate designs, I would PPF regardless of the platform just for convenience's sake.

Thanks. What is ppf? I've turned up some clear gel type grip tape which might be a winner, even if I have to change it regularly.

PPF aint going to work with anything bigger then a chihuahua. You said sheepdog, so a keplie ish size. Its claws are too big and will tear through the PPF.

Try a puppy ramp thing.

Paint Protective Film. 3M is, or has been the best brand. It is a clear vinyl adhesive backed product used in production on some rock chip prone areas and applied as an accessory by dealers or window tinting shops to all the front facing parts of vehicle and even lenses. There are different thicknesses sold. It is sold precut for some places but what you want to protect would have to be cut from a standard sheet. I looked not long ago and it was available on Amazon in several sheet sizes.

3M is very protective of its pipeline so if your seem precut tint/ppf kits online in places like Amazon/ebay. These are most likely fake. Check if the seller is an official 3m Partner in someway.

Have a look at the ebay post for Genuine 3M Ceramic/Crystalline/Colour Stable tint. All of them have a comments say that they do not come with the 3M logo. No Logo = fake.

Thanks. We've ended up about the same place. I've ordered a roll of 2mm thick clear acrylic tape from fleabay. I'll post back on how it works out.

This.
Ran it on my headlights and fog lights on my Mercedes. Much thicker than simple ppf. Harder to mold but the bumper should be very easy due to its simple shape.
