Wiring to SW should be ok not sure on the splines and air bag wiring and air bag size being compatible for the size of the X5 vs the M3 you may also invalidate your insurance policy if the retrofit is deemed incompatible

The splines, controls, air bag wiring and air bag look identical from what I can see. The only part number "not compatible" is the M3 steering wheel but I think that's only because of the diameter. I'm not worried about that part at all.

Its more of trying to get the M3 paddles to work (same part number as F85 X5M), which I'm not convinced will work without some wiring... that I would completely be okay with doing.

Dont know if its the same wheel, but this is the 1M wheel with M paddles installed on my x5 (originally had the normal lux line non paddle wheel).
Working 100% except for the M buttons, which do nothing.

That is super helpful man. Thank you. What year is your X5? Also, you did have to code the Paddle Shifters to be turned on right?

My X5 is actually one of the first production 2013 but sold as a 2014 model... So newer years should have no problem with wiring.

I think the M paddles confusion was from the E series Ms and standard models which used a different method on the wiring side.

The wiring on the inside was correct so all i had to do was plug everything straight on and afterwards code Paddles_Verbaut to activ.

Nice to see other forum members taking the plunge, for me it did a great deal of difference because it offers a lot more control, especially since the x5 is a hefty car.

Thank you brother. That was super clutch. I'm going to install it as-is, code it and see what happens.

DUDE... you are the fucking man!

I installed the M3 steering wheel, coded exactly what you said and every thing is working beautifully.

So I got the wheel with paddle shifters and I am a bit confused with wiring, looks like I do need to splice cables, right?

EDIT: Never mind re-read your post and I have white and brown cables in the right spot.

Well good news are I got steering wheel replaced, added 2TB, paddle shifts are working, Spot+ pops up as well but bad news are when I took it for test drive got bunch of warnings about stabilization, pedestrian detection warning and chassis malfunction, drives just fine but gives me all these errors.I tired to clear DTC errors as described in the coding thread using transmitter app but that did not help, connected with ISTA P and there are 2 errors about EPS sensor and position and the service plan requires to lift front wheels up run some calibration. Sounds like a dealer trip ahead :-(
First error I got is Signal Actual Position EPS 51.0.2 invalid transmitter EPS
Second one is 48239C EPS torque sensor (steering angle index): Index Faulty
I found exactly same issue here:
https://mhhauto.com/Thread-BMW-F15-X...daptation-help

Any suggestions? Or just go see a dealer and get them re-calibrate this.

Had a similar situation to you when I VO coded it with 2TB added to the FA The faults disappeared from the start up display after I left it overnight However when I took it some month's later for an annual service the service manager did say he had to clear a number of recorded faults arising from the VO coding

Hmm, well test it tomorrow morning again. But so far it looks like I need to jack up front wheels to get the steering wheel sensor re-calibrated. Need to find a second jack and probably a jack stand or if I can't get them might need to visit dealer.

You can follow the procedure in ISTA for EPS calibration without lifting the car... I have done it many times...

Do you mind sharing the process? When I go to Vehicle Management-Service Functions-Steering angle sensor field doesn't expand and doesn't show any options there. Am I looking at the wrong spot? When I go to the Calculate test plan it offers me to jack up the front and perform sensor calibration. I also found 3-4 different posts where people said they need to jack up the front of the car.

I am away from home without any access to ISTA, but over the top of my head I think you need to go intro the first line - Electromechanical power steering and there you have the whole calibration process. Nevermind the steering angle sensor, that will be calibrated with the whole EPS itself.

Yep, EPS is there. But still asked me to raise the car, done in 10 minutes, all errors are gone.

Really confused about this and trying to understand why I never had this type of error where I had resort to doing the above. Did you disconnect the battery before steering wheel change over? Is it because I have RWD (sDrive) only?or did the angle sensor accidentally move in the steering column during the wheel change over?

I am trying to remember if I FDL coded the paddles to active as a quick check before I VO coded the 3 ECU's Opasha spoke about in his coding thread.

Either way I did not get any errors until I VO coded the ICM module which cleared themselves from the display the following day after I took the X5 on the road to test out the paddle shifts. I was not running Esys version 3.27 & could not clear the recorded faults using the transmitter app

I vaguely remember when I replaced the steering wheel on my VW Tiguan a warning light came on for a few minutes which Ross Tech told me was due to the steering angle sensor recalibrating itself after the battery being reconnected. It disappeared after I drove around the block

The good point is you now have paddle shift which a couple of years ago you thought was not an option.....enjoy

I think it has nothing to do with actual steering wheel being replaced this is a random issue after battery disconnect:
https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1683268
https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1594296
https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1566696
I did not FDL code the paddles just VO 2TB and coded 3 modules. Got Sport+ and paddles working.
Not sure what triggers this, some people never get this and some people like me do.

Thanks Bambazonke, I got same setup wit F15 2.5D Xdrive
Just install F30 steering with paddles. to I just cut pink wire and ground it then active paddles_verbaut in Pfsteeringwheel paddles from Bimmercode. Works perfectly
Now I wonder if possible to set launch control..

Cannot be done in BC, just need ESys 3.34 or greater no ESysx or Launcher Pro required and an Enet cable Add 2TB code to your FA and then VO code the affected ECU's as per Opasha's coding thread to get Launch Control enabled.

Can be done remotely but will still need a cable @r33_RGSport I think does it

Thanks for this write up, Bambazonke! I upgraded my Lux line wheel (with paddles) to an F25 MSport wheel using your experience as a guide. All works great!
