Well, I'm disappointed. The mount did not fit! The tolerances between the bracket and trim do not allow re-installation of the trim. This may be due to me running x5m dash trim? With the phone bracket mounted, the dash trim does not have enough clearance to slide/snap back into place. There is probably a way to lower the control panel by ovaling out holes. I'm not willing to do that at this point

Hopefully this will fit for others like it does in the video.

It didn't work for me.:

I guess mine will be for sale soon.

Interesting, I just ordered mine and also upgraded to OEM F85 Carbon dash. I guess we’ll find out lol.

I have basically the same thing but a vent mount. If you decide to sell yours let me know.

Thats too much disassembly and messing with BMW clips for a simple phone mount for my taste.

Just took a 1000 mile roundtrip with this one and it's absolutely perfect with an iPhone xr which has a decent screen. I run the regular magnets, one round on the middle outside of otterbox slim case and one rectangular on the inside. Vertically I can have the phone far enough down off center so as not to block the main screen and it holds fine. Horizontally, no issue at all centered. I like how the phone sits closer to you than the vent mount clip I was running.

Great, glad it helped! I use a MagSafe case, and it holds up to bumps really well. It doesn't vibrate like the vent mounts sometimes do.

did you get this installed yet? did it work for you?

did some searching on several vendor sites that sell this and none advertise it as also fitting an x5m. there must be slight dash trim differences

Package is still en route because I ordered the universal fire extinguisher bracket and so on too. I’ll report back. I’m not afraid to dremel I guess but let’s see.

Pitaka used to sell CD slot mounts. The nice thing about them is that you can charge while getting a solid magnetic connection at the same time. Pretty fast charging too, they take a higher amperage PD USB C plug. On the X5, that puts the phone pretty low, but then there’s minimal loose cable dangling. I can only find the CD tray version second hand now though. I suspect they didn’t want to deal with damaged CD drive complaints.

They’ve been sitting on a shelf in my garage since I got busy with moving and stuff. I’ve got time next weekend for fun garage time so I’ll install and report back.

Another vote for this mount. Really secure mounting to the car without needing to remove any trim. I have since removed the magnetic ball part and replaced it with a wireless charging motorized clamp.

I bought this and the mount is perfect - I tossed the holder. But you can pop the holder in and out and when it is out - you don't even notice the holder at all - fits perfect and then you just pop in the holder you like.
