Well, I'm disappointed. The mount did not fit! The tolerances between the bracket and trim do not allow re-installation of the trim. This may be due to me running x5m dash trim? With the phone bracket mounted, the dash trim does not have enough clearance to slide/snap back into place. There is probably a way to lower the control panel by ovaling out holes. I'm not willing to do that at this point
Hopefully this will fit for others like it does in the video. It didn't work for me.: I guess mine will be for sale soon.

Thats too much disassembly and messing with BMW clips for a simple phone mount for my taste. |

did some searching on several vendor sites that sell this and none advertise it as also fitting an x5m. there must be slight dash trim differences

Package is still en route because I ordered the universal fire extinguisher bracket and so on too. I’ll report back. I’m not afraid to dremel I guess but let’s see.

Pitaka used to sell CD slot mounts. The nice thing about them is that you can charge while getting a solid magnetic connection at the same time. Pretty fast charging too, they take a higher amperage PD USB C plug. On the X5, that puts the phone pretty low, but then there’s minimal loose cable dangling. I can only find the CD tray version second hand now though. I suspect they didn’t want to deal with damaged CD drive complaints.

They’ve been sitting on a shelf in my garage since I got busy with moving and stuff. I’ve got time next weekend for fun garage time so I’ll install and report back.

I bought this and the mount is perfect - I tossed the holder. But you can pop the holder in and out and when it is out - you don't even notice the holder at all - fits perfect and then you just pop in the holder you like.
