Alcantara Covered Dash Trim

I've been contemplating this for quite sometime, and finally decided to pull the trigger. But, I did get a lot of flack from my girlfriend about this. But it's my money at the end of the day, and not hers.
So, I went to my local interior upholstery shop called SeatCo in Springfield VA.
Talked to Matthew about the concept, and he said we can do it. First he just needed to find the correct Alcantara material that matches perfectly with my X5M's headliner.
After he acquired the material, I made an appointment to drop the X5M off yesterday. They took about three hours to complete, and it looks great.
This adds a distinct and unique look to my vehicles interior, and I couldn't be happier with the result.

$427 including the cost of the Alcantara material and 3 hours labor. I told them to take their time and gently remove the trim, as to not crack it during removal or installation.
I didn't want to go to BMW and order new and expensive carbon fiber dash trim. This material has a very thin foam backing, so it is very soft to the touch, and offers some padding although very thin.
Honestly, I think it came out great.

But the good news is that you can do this yourself, no special tools are needed, just a razor blade, plastic pry tools, a thin card for tucking in the edges, upholstery adhesive and maybe a heat gun. But I didn't want to tackle this myself, so I took it to professionals, who do this for a living.
One shop told me hell no, they don't want to touch it and break the expensive dash trim, another shop told me to remove the trim and they would wrap it for $150. So, I was willing to pay extra to have it done by professionals, SeatCo is the same shop that has repaired my splitting sun visors on my 07 E63 AMG.
These guys do complete custom interiors, convertible tops and leather restorations. If it involves a car's interior, they can custom build your interior from scratch, but it won't be cheap. Out of curiosity, I even ask them if they can wrap my E63's dash in leather/alcantara. And they told me to do it right, the entire dash would need to come out, and it wouldn't be cheap.

I love it! I've wanted to do mine for a long time now!

What are you waiting for, just do it. Your interior is probably similar to mine, either covered in leather, carbon fiber or alcantara.
And honestly, it made sense to me to cover the shiny piano black plastic in alcantara. I should have done this a long long time ago.
But, I'm very happy that it's finally done.

I really like your leather wrapped airbag. And the alcantara would look nice in your interior.
