Goodridge SS Braided Brake Lines

Has anyone tried installing these? The front lines are too short, they match the F15 spec line and you can only turn the wheel 3/4 of the way before it starts pulling on the line.

I thought I ordered the wrong part but they're listed the same for F15/F85 on the Goodridge site. I contacted them and they said they're the same for both cars according TecDoc.

Apparently this pic of their line next to the factory F85 line wasn't convincing. Going to get a picture of a stock F15 and F85 line next to each other to show they're not the same length. Very annoyed.

I have em. The fronts are indeed tight and something I noticed during install also. I can go lock to lock with no pulling, but there is zero extra play. With the suspension loaded, you gain the extra slack but certainly less then OE. No issues at ~20k miles on them. Paired to my OE F85 caliper.

Ooooh, good point on loading the suspension. I didn't think about that, and wasn't comfortable proceeding after testing it while it was in the air.

From the picture that you posted i dont see much of an issue, maybe 1” short or so, i find factory lines more than enough length, i think you should be good, just make sure nothing rubs lock to lock, youll be fine

It was probably 2-3 inches short. When the suspension was hanging it was not able to go full lock, but like zeroping said hopefully it's fine when it's back on the ground. Just don't want to find out by trial and error and have to keep bleeding the brakes haha.

I don't know who decides the length for Goodridge brake lines, but I've had them on 3 different cars at this point and they're all either 3 inches too long or 1 inch too short. Every single time. I've never had a set match the OEM size perfectly.

So finally had a chance to get back out and pull the lines off and got a comparison of the Goodridge F15/F85 line, stock F15 line, and the stock F85 line (top to bottom). So sharing here for the next guy.

Also, I put the Goodridge lines on and put it back on the the ground and took a picture of how much slack there is at full lock. As mentioned in the above comments, there's enough to go full lock but it's not much. Yeesh!

I've never upgraded brake lines on any of my vehicles. Is there a noticeable improvement in brake pedal feel? Our F85 seems almost perfect already, so I'm curious as to any gain you might have.

As your rubber brake lines age, they start to feel spongy under high brake pressure. Stainless steel braided lines from Brembo, StopTech and others will not have that brake feel. Just a rock solid, rigid brake pedal all day every day.
I always upgrade my brake lines on all my vehicles. I just purchased an 2017 M3 Competition and that's one of the first mods, I plan to do.

Update: After sending side by side comparisons and measurements, Goodridge is making an F85 specific front line now!

Quote:
Hi Ryan,

I have specified a replacement pair of front brake lines that are manufactured to the new longer length under warranty for you. These replacement brake lines should be manufactured and sent to you this week. I will forward you the tracking number once I have it.

Thank you for your patience while we resolved this for you

We have now setup a new part number for these vehicles that use the longer lines on the front SBW1212-6

Regards
Stuart

You can order them from multiple places such as Amazon, ECS Tuning, Pelican Parts etc., even eBay.

Pretty sure he’s talking about the newly updated lines that are longer for the F85 application. Not the readily available lines that are really for the F15

Thank you for the clarification. I however order my lines from Stop Tech, and the fitment is spot on.

Good to know the Stop Tech lines are the correct length. I got stainless lined from ECS Tuning and they have the same shorter length as the F15. Was thinking about trying the Stop Tech’s but was worried everyone was making the same short kit.

I didn’t, it looks like it’s impossible to get to those so I didn’t bother
