2014-2015 X5 F15 Recall - Head Protection System airbags

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
WASHINGTON — BMW of North America is recalling 46 2014-'15 BMW X5 SUVs to replace the Head Protection System airbags, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recalled vehicles include the 2015 BMW X5 xDrive 35d built from August 19, 2014 to February 16, 2015 and the 2014-'15 BMW X5 xDrive 35i, X5 sDrive 35i and X5 xDrive 50i built from August 28, 2013 to February 16, 2015.

"In the affected vehicles, the Head Protection System airbag may not be securely connected to the airbag inflator gas generator," said NHTSA in its recall summary. "Without a secure connection to the inflator, the HPS air bags may have insufficient inflation during a vehicle crash, increasing the risk of injury."

BMW told federal safety regulators it is not aware of any accidents or injuries linked to the recall.

BMW dealers will replace the Head Protection System. The recall is expected to begin on April 1. Owners can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Edmunds says: If you own one of these SUVs, it's time to make a service appointment with your dealer, since this recall begins shortly.

What is the significance of the "46" (is recalling 46 2014-'15 BMW X5 SUVs ) Are they saying only 46 vehicles are faulty?

You can check to see if your X5 is effected by this recall by clicking on the link below and enter VIN number. Luckily mine isn't part of this recall

Thanks. Mine is not listed, but it should be based on the recall specifics.

Same for me as well. I'll check again in a few days and then call in to BMW to verify for sure. Btw, the recall number for BMW NA is 800-525-7417.

It does say, "Please allow up to 30 days after completion of a safety recall on your vehicle for this data to be updated."

So checking now may be a bit early and once the system updates we could be on the list.

I would check back again at a later date since the recall is "expected to begin April 1." Chances are the online system will be the last to be updated.

I would think that applies to removing the recall on your vehicle once you had it serviced.

It would make sense to recheck the site after April 1st because that is the "start" date.

Sitting at the dealership right now for my first "service" visit. Asked the service advisor about the recall, nothing in the system yet.

Thats it?! My cars been in the shop for over 30 days now for various reasons over the course of 9 months. My X5 is such a piece of shit. Fuck BMWNA too for yanking my chain "we can't offer a resolution until the issue has been corrected" yet they'll keep your car for longer than a month.

Just checked the website, called my local dealer, and finally called BMW today and they all say there is no open recall on my car.

This is extremely frustrating as the recall posted online shows that my vehicle is affected and it's a critical safety system.
