Just because it describes it so perfectly I thought I would provide this bit of marketing gold below. This is part of the text exchange between our Director of Engineering and the owner of the X5M development car we had in the shop not long after he picked up the car earlier in the day.

I have this programming on my F13 M6 and the F01 Alpina B7x. When it works it is amazing but it also has had its share of replacements. The ECU is very susceptible to water and programming it can be tricky. Currently it works well in my M6 although on my third unit and it is turned off for testing in the Alpina. I hope that all of these issues have been worked out. My previous BMW vehicles had Dinan tuning via software and they were amazing. I am trying to like the Dinantronics but I feel they still have issues to work out. Feel free to contact me via message if any of the Dinan engineers are on.

For your specific mentions: 1. The water issue pertained to the location of the original mounting on the M5/M6 specifically. We originally tucked it into the cowl area right in front of the passenger seat. To our chagrin it was later found out that that particular location tends to get gunked up with leaves so the water does not drain and the box quite literally could be submerged in water for extended periods of time. Developed in drought driven California this was not something we encountered. =) The mounting location has since been changed to the front of the engine compartment where this flooding is not an issue on the M5/M6. 2. The programming issues have been reduced dramatically. The programming apps have been revised and updated many times to assist in ensuring mis-programs do not happen. At the same time we are subject to techs sometimes trying to skip steps or just subject to human error. There will always be the chance of a programming issue. The same was the case in the ECU flashing days as well. 3. The Alpina B7 is a mystery to me to be honest as we have no open technical support claims/warranty claims on an Aplina B7 in Michigan. The only one that comes up was back in May that had a bunch of programming issues but that was more due to a non-Dinan tech attempting to do things and having a steep learning curve more then anything. If you could send me a PM about the dealer, situation, etc on that particular car I will pass that along to warranty/tech support so they can reach out and address it as again, we are unaware of any issues on a B7 at present. |

I hope to get her to the strip this weekend and share some numbers. I'm running Stage 2, though, so it'll probably be a bit quicker than what you could expect with Stage 1.

Regardless, we do not test, nor keep any records for 0-60 times. We stick to simply reporting dyno numbers since they can be accurately repeated.
0-60 times can fluctuate greatly based on driver skill, reaction time, transmissions, tire temperature, tires etc. When you are talking about a couple fractions of a second difference meaning the difference between good and bad time and with so many variables that can be manipulated it really isn't a scientific measurement. For example… Car and Driver universally gets the best 0-60 times for any car that is released. They do this by quite literally destroying the transmission in the process. They do things to eek out a few extra tenths no one in their right mind would do to their own car just for the best possible number. We strive to give realistic numbers and data, not data that is skewed. Not to mention if we did report those types of number we would have guys in the back parking lot doing burnouts all day trying to beat each other’s time and not working. While fun, it wouldn’t exactly be productive. =) All that said it looks like our development car customer will be supplying some numbers if you want something to hang your hat on. Quote:
No discounts for early subscribers. DINANTRONICS actually has never been on sale from the factory for its entire existence (nearly 2 years) so I don't see that changing any time soon unfortunately. You can always hit up your local dealer however and they may be willing to work with you. Always are looking to earn additional business after all. |

I am having my ECU scrubbed per Dinan and will be adding the new software in about two weeks when the break in oil is changed. Looking forward to a few blasts in it before winter comes and necessitates snow tires

So it's really only 55hp and 49tq improvement from stock? I have always thought the figures Dinan posts are a bit misleading. When I hear 702 hp it makes me feel they were able to get 135 more horses from stock. Am I missing something? Or does that pretty much explain what's happening?
