Switch out winter wheels?
Just was wondering when folks start changing back to the 21's? I'm in the DC area and the temps are climbing pretty steady and holding which got me wondering. End of March maybe?
I'm thankful for the winter OEM setup but miss the handling and look of the 21's! |

I usually do it at some point in April, Im in NJ. But that also depends on how bad the roads got over the course of the winter. By me, the roads are littered with potholes right now.

I usually switch around the end of March. I'll be due for my next service about then, so I plan to put my summer set on when it's in for service.

I usually do April, but last year I waited until May because of the craters all over our lovely roads here in NY/NJ.

Good points around the road conditions, guess I'll hold off till April too...A friend of mine just blew out his rear air suspension on his x5is because of a road crater while driving in DC.
Just can't wait to get that road hugging tight feel of the 21 super sports back! |

I've been wondering this myself. Here in the PNW, it seems March is a decent time to start thinking about it.

I usually go to summers in April, but I just put the 21 summers on a couple days ago as the weather was so nice. WHAT a difference!! Front summer tires feel heavy. Needed two hands on the steering wheel for the first day as it was so responsive. Cornering is BACK. Those spongy winter tires were soft around the corner. It was so exhilarating to take a corners at speed again.

HI Luca, you caught that!
El Nino has made it warm(er) this year. We were +14.5 (58 Fahrenheit) for a couple days, not much snow left anywhere so I had to change. I have a back up car if we get snowed on again. Hope you had a good time when you were in Alberta. |

Is it time for summer shoes yet?
The weather has been beautiful here. And the potholes are filling pretty quickly. I haven't had to dodge many at all lately. I'm so tempted to put on my big girl wheels but it's not nice to fool Mother Nature....
With my luck I'll switch them out and we'll get a spring snow storm. What are you guys thinking? |

78 in the city today, but you know it will get cooler. I guess depends how often you drive and to new areas or not. I have all the potholes near down to memory so might be OK, but even then I usually wait until April. Theres this one pothole on my walk to the ferry terminal on the NJ side that has been there for 3 weeks. Infuriating to me they dont fill it, even more infuriating watching people breeze over them like it doesnt matter.

I agree with you, cmyx6go, the nice weather has me itching to ditch my better judgment and install my summers now. Despite this being an incredibly mild, and odd winter, I can name too many years where there's been a freak March snowstorm that would make me regret switching now. With that in mind, I'm sticking to my plan of installing them the end of March, when I have my next service appointment.

I was thinking the same thing today. 75 F in March. Was going to do it but then I thought better (and my girlfriend suggested better). We could get some more cold, icy weather without a doubt, and although the potholes aren't that bad, I guess I should hold off a few more weeks as well. Itching to get the 21" back on though...

Hopefully we will finally get an early spring. It's been so long since we had one. I remember putting our boat in the water in March years ago and it being absolutely freezing in early November. Now it seems the seasons shifted, it's still been cold right up to Memorial Day weekend, but it stays warm well into Nov.
