I am making a quick DIY using my mobile phone for F15/F16 X5/X6 F85/F86 X5M/X6M F25/F26 X3/X4 side mirror cover removal or retrofit.

1. Remove the mirror glass. Please be careful as it will come off and may fall to the ground if you don't have auto dim and/or mirror heating option. Other method that it should work is by using painter tape to hold the mirror against the housing so it doesn't fall off after removing it.

2. Unhook the connectors if you have autodim and/or heated mirror option.

3. Push the 2 clips holding the mirror caps.

4. For F85/F86 X5M/X6M side mirror retrofit, you need to remove the 6 torx screws so you can remove the mirror base.

Installation is in reverse. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have questions.

Was trying it toady. But not able to push out the clips. How do you push them out, and tool you used?

Updates: applied more force to the clips. It went thru ok. Both caps are been replaced.

I use a simple flat screwdriver.

I just tried to install tonight. I got the mirror off without any issues, but for the life of me I couldn't get the cover off. I tried everything on the clips and couldn't get the cover to budge. I tried using a small plastic push tool and then switched to a flat head screw driver. Any hints?

Try loosen up the screw also and pull the base forward to loosen up the mirror cap.

Thanks for the advise Ben, this makes the process require a lot less force.

Anyone know what size torx screws are in the mirror housing holding on the cap? or is it just the clips that secure the caps?
Planning to change out my f85 to CF mirror caps soon and want to make sure I have all the right tools before disassembling.

Plan to get them wrapped with 3M Carbon Fiber paper today.

Get both off this afternoon but it is really hard not to break something.

I have both GREEN location clips broken when remove the covers.

However the other two may hold the covers strong and will see when I finished the wrap and re-install them.
