I know some of us have been discussing what we want in the next generation X5 M. Below are the latest factory camouflage photos of the upcoming 2019 X5 that will be the basis for the next X5 M.

Anyone noticed any differences from the current generation. I know this is supposed to be a 100% redesign. Incorporating the 7 Series/ 5 Series & upcoming X7 cluster architecture (CLAR) with major weight savings.

So far I see the following:

Length. Overall seems longer, especially the rear overhang, which should mean some improvements in second row and cargo space.

Redesigned Front end. New headlights. New larger kidney grilles.

Roof. The roof seems to have more of a curve as it approaches the rear of the vehicle.

Rear. Seems to be some significant styling changes to the rear roof spoiler and the rear hatch.

Guesses. I expect the interior to look more like the M5. New seat design because I read BMW changed vendors.

Anyone else see changes that will trickle down to the X5 M?

600hp M5 engine is supposed to go in it...possibly with more torque.

I just wish BMW did not delay the M one year after the base launches. 2020 model year. Fall 2019.

Looks good! Right in time for my lease to be up. Maybe i can negotiate a good buy out since the new M's will be coming out!

Rear quarter panel window looks disproportionately small to the rest of the body. Other than that, looking forward to see what it will look like

I think they may be disguising the rear window proportions. It is definitely weird looking the way they appear to have it showing under this camouflage

I definitely feel like the grilles are too tall. The X7 concept has way too much vertical height to the grill. Often manufacturers go too far with redesigns. When Mercedes designed the GL550 they put the world's largest Mercedes three point star on it and made the grilles larger. It was overkill and they quickly downsized it after the first refresh. Hoping BMW has the proportions right, because it looks way too big.

one thing that annoys me with MB is the logo in the grill then on the hood. it's redundant and unnecessary.

I still can't tell if it's a Mercedes. They need to go bigger with that roundel!

The rear hips look cayenne-y to me. Not a fan. Of course, need to see in the flesh.

Looking at the front end of the above next generation X5, the kidney grilles are so large it negates the need for some of the other air ducts on the front of a normal X5, and could make for a new look to a new X5 M front end. That combined with the low positioning of the adaptive cruise control camera sensor system ought to make the next X5 M have an interesting front end.

First picture below is the sort of air / breathing / mesh openings that would be omitted by the larger kidney grilles. Wondering how the adaptive cruise control sensor will fit into the front end, specifically with American size license plates. Second picture below is what I mean by the kidney grilles growing in vertical size like the X7 Concept.

It looks like they averaged 25 years of Cutlass front grills and rolled with it on the new platform. I hope the camo is throwing the look off.

Still interesting as the pics above show blue fixed calipers up front. So either putting them stock on the X5 M sport or this is an X5M? I do like the rims. I think. Haha

This is not the X5 M. Not sure why it has blue calipers up front, but the rear trapezoidal exhaust is now standard on all models except the X5 M high we all know obviously has twin dual exhaust (quad). This might be the X5 50i or future equivalent top non-M model.

I think we will see a much more aggressive front end also once the X5 M model is unveiled...one year after the X5.

Hoping BMW can come close to the stats put forward by Lamborghini today with their Urus which they claim 0-60 in 3.6, and a top speed of 190 mph.

With some real weight savings and engine improvements it is not a far stretch. Car and Driver tested the X5 M at 3.8 seconds 0-60, and with the M Drivers Package on my X5 M the top speed limiter is changed from 155 mph to 178 mph. 0.2 seconds 0-60 and 13 mph are not too far away.

Interested to see how well the Lamborghini makes it around the Nürburgring. Then even more interested to see the next X5 M make it around even faster.

Here is the lates X5 spy photo making the front grilles look more like my sketch above.

I agree. I was hoping that they would respond to the negative customer feedback on the X7 prototype/Concept, and they did not whatsoever. Please. Someone tell me where are all the customers who asked BMW to make a huge set of grilles on the front end of the X5, X7, etc.

I have seen the video of the X7 Concept, and they discussed the design, and BMW talked about how it would be out of proportion if the grilles were smaller!!!

I think this will hurt sales.
