Advice and Help Needed!

Hi,

I have a 2014 BMW X5 F15 30D xDrive M Sport with 90K miles on the clock. Full BMW service history and only serviced 9 months ago. On Saturday past I was driving home and heard what I can only describe as a diesel knock from the engine (lasted one to two seconds) with a ghost in power for same duration, drove another 10 yards and exact same again so I stopped the car and turned it off immediately. No lights or error/warning messages on the dash. I let her cool for 15 mins, then I tried to restart the car but she would crank only - wouldn't start. Took flatbed 40 mins to come meet me to get her towed, in that time she ran the battery entirely flat, nothing was switched on in the car. Had to use a booster pack to get her electronically into Neutral (gearbox electronic manual override while cranking the engine).

Had the battery on charge for two days at home.

On Sunday night I was trying to read fault codes and went to put on ignition 2 position, but accidentally had foot on the brake, she tried to crank twice and then was about to start (given I don't know the actually issue yet and without wanting to cause further harm, I panicked and turned her off before she got a chance to fully start thought).

Autel Computer is showing the following fault codes:
- 249300 - Intermittent - Rail Pressure Monitoring on Engine Start: Rail Pressure too low during engine start
- 288C00 - Intermittent - Power Management: Total Discharge
- CD9433 - Intermittent - Signal (Kilometre reading/range) invalid, transmitter KOMBI

Anyone any ideas or similar experience? Thinking its a fuel pump failure, which if so going to be a lot of work and large bill

Did you ever change your fuel filter? Do you always use the same station? Any chance of fuel contamination?

The car has a full BMW service history, and I believe the fuel filter has been changed couple of times previously by them during the Inspection 2 (Major Service). Last change around 13K miles ago I believe.

Same fueling station every time - been told there fuel has never given any issues when chatting to a few local mechanics.

Hi, so turns out it was my High Pressure Fuel Pump.

It has broke down inside and filled my fuel system with metal fillings. So now i'm into a massive repair bill...

In the US there a recall for this, sadly not in Europe reached out to BMW UK, but they wont acknowledge the issue with these pumps and the recall they issued in US. So got a tough luck, on your own response.

I was going to suggest the HPFP when reading your descriptions. Sorry to hear about the BMW UK not giving any relief to owners there with this issue. It's a common issue.
