x-line steering wheel

Hi,
Planning to pick up F15 for the wife, I get to drive it on long travels,we currently have 2006 honda pilot which has served us well but time to retire it,I hated the steering wheel on that SUV and to make matters worse the steering wheel on the F15 x-line we test drove was numb and small.

Can some please help me in deciding ,is the steering wheel on the M sport bigger ,thicker and has more feel than the X line?

Thanks in advance

John

I have driven both and there is a night and day difference. The Xline wheel totally sucks. The M Sport wheel is pretty much the same one on the M5 and is awesome. Thick, well padded, and comfortable. Feel is a function of the steering system. The new electric steering leaves much to be desired at first...

I don't think BMW engineers would put something that's not pleasing for a steering wheel just to show the difference between lines.
That said, I drive F15 X5 and I liked the X Line steering wheel. It's wrapped in leather and has enough padding to hold. It has some stainless steel accents to make it look better than standard one.
I know M sport steering comes with paddle shifters.
No regrets for X Line choice so far. Loving the looks. I feel proud of my choice every time I look at M sport particularly 35i.

I could be totally wrong, but my memory -- having test driven both an X-line and and M Sport -- is that the ONLY difference in the steering wheels was that the M Sport adds the paddle shifters. If I were you, I would ask your CA to double check with BMW as to what if any difference there might be.

Nope. It's a different wheel.

"Totally sucks" is a bit dramatic. While I'd avoid the no line wheel, the x-line is beefy and adequate in this role.

IMHO the M wheel looks odd in an F15.

+1 and -1 lol.

I agree on the x-line (which is a sport wheel, not m sport but still a sport wheel). Nice and thick and comfortable with the controls you want.

But I don't think the m sport wheel looks odd at all in the F15. Maybe initially I thought it's more "sports car" ish, but when you get in one, it just suits the interior perfectly. And after all, the X5 is supposed to be the "sports car of SUV's" isn't it?

xLine wheel is nice - very happy with it. M sport wheel is both smaller diameter and slightly thicker I believe. I like the feel of the m sport wheel, though I confess my initial reaction was it is too small and insubstantial in vehicle this size. That's the type of perception that changes over time though.

Just picked up my xLine diesel at the dealership and the steering wheel is awesome. Can't imagine anything beefier and I'm not a small guy (6'8"). Very glad i got the HUD as with the seating position (and my height) i'm unable to see the top of the speedometer -- which is also very nice by the way with full LCD display.

Do you mean the speedometer itself is LCD???
