Recall - looking for more details
I'm curious if anyone has more information on the recent recall on the 2014 X5. I got a call a couple of weeks ago from my dealer asking me to bring in the car as a result of a recall. When I asked what the issue was, I was told that it was a simple reprogramming issue. I googled around for more details and only found the Faulty Child Safety Locks recall which affects vehicles with the Soft Close Automatic (SCA) option, which I don't have.
Anyone else called in for "reprogramming" recall?? |

Here is the explanation I eventually got from my dealer:
"The recall number is 34 80 14C. They issued the recall because in the background the DSC unit, dynamic stability control, will permanently store a fault in the memory. This wouldn’t be displayed or be able to be cleared with our test equipment. Trying to read the code may cause the OBD, on board diagnostics, to fail. The repair was to program the vehicle and update and overwrite the software to allow us to read and clear the codes. " |

Mine is 50i. Parkview SA just emailed me (away from his office) within 24 hours, so expeditiously, that is top service!
It is for a whole day of software, assume issue is as what Ramsal specified. The SCA applies to mfg date 12/12/13 to 3/10/14. Mine is prior and not affected as per my SA. Jenya B, I assume that yours falls into the relevant period ( you may want to get it replaced as it may not meet specs, works today but may fail in future also piece of mind). See below word "could" http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs...V202-5873P.pdf "This recall involves the rear side door lock mechanism that was not manufactured to correct tolerances on vehicles equipped with the Soft Close Automatic (SCA) option. When the inside door handle is pulled, it could disengage a previously engaged child safety lock. It would then be possible upon a second pull of the door handle, for a rear seat occupant to open the door while the vehicle is parked or in motion, increasing the risk of injury." |
