Do you make better pizza than the roman pizza place?

Just because it's from a store doesn't mean it's bad. When people come over and have garlic bread for the first time they freak the fuck out. Most of the time i don't even get a piece because they scarf it all up.

All i do is stretch out one of their dough balls, bake it, then slather garlic butter all over it. Almost everyone assumes we made the dough. Trust me, it's good dough. And it's not like we didn't question the bakery about the recipe before buying it the first time.

I actually bought dough from a local pizza place before finding the dough i currently use. It was made daily, by a dedicated pizza place and it was garbage. Didn't rise, too sweet, too difficult to hand stretch. Had to use a roller and like RJ, i prefer to sling the dough.

I'm pretty well on top of it when it comes to pizza. At least when RJ is here kneading my dough.

Not saying store is bad, just saying you could do better! That's a compliment. As long as RJ is there, of course.

So it's NY style pizza, now i know it sucks.

I only had pizza from one place during my visit to NYC and i was not impressed. Sucks that i only had that one sample though. Kind of taints my view of NY pizza.

Chicago pizza is overrated IMO.

Theres a good brick fired oven place here in Utica called Tivolis. Anchovies, ham, black olive, and diced tomatoe.

Damn RJ, it's always about RJ!

Honestly, i tried to make smaller batches of our original recipe and it didn't work. Trying to cut a tablespoon of ingredients into 50 makes shit all kinds of wonky.

The recipe the bakery uses is like a 98% match of what ours was and they make it daily. They do suck at rolling it into dough balls. They use a machine which allows larger air pockets to get into the dough balls before the dough starts to rise. Makes it difficult to sling some times, thin spots. If RJ would pull his weight around her, he'd be hand kneading the dough balls rather than just tossing it.

(When i read his first post about slinging dough i wondered if he purposely chose that term instead of "hand tossing".)

The dough i use is the same dough used to make french bread. When i make garlic bread out of it, not mashing it and stretching it to a 16" pizza, (use my e-penis for a ruler, so convenient) the bread is super light and fluffy. May just make a pizza in that fashion in an attempt to replicate your description.
e-penis as a ruler. That had me laughing. Nice one, I shall remember it for later use.

Completely agree. I went in with certain expectations given everything I had heard and was really disappointed. To be perfectly honest, everything about Chicago was disappointing, I wouldn't go back at this point. Everywhere we ate, it was mostly subpar, and there were no deals on anything re: shopping for my wife. Plus rainy and windy.

Went to Sarasota immediately after and enjoyed it immensely. Food was better too, which I was not initially expecting, but Chicago set the bar so low that we honestly really enjoyed the restaurants in that area.

Nah, have you never listened to your grandparents and parents?

They had to walk uphill both ways to get to and from school. The way I see it, both generations have walked uphill so long that they must be at the pinnacle now. Only downhill coasting from here for me.

Plus, guns are legal here and the likelihood of getting murders is MUCH MUCH lower.

Hey Joekerr - did you visit St. Armand's Circle during you trip to Sarasota?

I know a couple local joints that are fantastic!
