Factory Maintenance Question
Hello,
I have 2015 50i with about 47K miles and within a month of expiration of factory warranty. During my ownership no brake pads or spark plugs were replaced under factory maintenance. My service advisor is telling me I am "pretty close" to hitting this but I would have to drive a lot in the next month to get there if I wanted to be covered under factory maintenance. He is able to get this info from my key. Does this make sense? Per my Vehicle Status setting, I see 3200 miles for front and rear pads but of course nothing about spark plugs. With my luck, none of this would fall within the next 30 or so days of warranty. Anything I can do to ensure I get this within my warranty period (e.g., long highway or just driving more aggressively?). Thanks |

I think OP is talking about the free maintenance plan which covers brakes. I'm in the same boat.. My rear brakes need to be changed in 3100 miles and it has been saying that for the last 3 months even though I have put more than 3100 miles on since then. Fortunately my free maintenance ends next March.

Yes, in USA its free for 4 years / 50K miles for model year 2015 or 2016 vehicles. BMW changed it recently with all model year 2017 BMW vehicles and newer is 3years / 36K mile.

The estimate miles from Idrive for brakes are nowhere near accurate. So don’t trust on that. Measure it by hands, usually dealer will change brakes when the pad thickness is less than 3mm.

Very helpful - thanks. Based on this, it seems like the plugs won't be changed under free maintenance since not required until 60K?

Plug change can be a DIY - there are instructions here on the forums you can search for. It should be straight forward and doesn't take a genius to do. Otherwise have them done at a independent shop for $100 or so.

I am at 44K miles and f&r pads read 3100 miles. Maintenance plan ends in September but it is at 3100 for the past 4 months. I need to go for maintenance in 1500 miles and will have them measure the breaks, hopefully they will get changed.

Why is the 35i so much more difficult than the others? Is it just the location, or more difficult to get too?

It's not really a big difference, maybe extra 30min for 35i. |

I just brought my car (2014 X5 35i, 50k miles) for service. I asked them to do an oil/filter change and brake fluid flush (as requested in iDrive). My front brake counter stopped counting down at 3200 miles and has been stuck there for about a year. They checked the brakes (front and rear) and said I still have enough pad thickness on the fronts to go another year. The front brake pads have never been changed. The rears were changed under included maintenance several years ago.
