Cleaning Diesel Particulate filter?
Hello -
I'm being quoted $5000.00 to have this replaced. Anyone in the Philly area ever have them cleaned rather than replaced? MY15 x5d, 85,000 miles... Code is 2BB100 I've been reading all the threads.... Appreciate the help/comments. Thx! Last edited by Wardman; 06-19-2023 at 04:24 PM.. |

Delete > clean. But curious to hear some feedback on cleaning since i am at the point of doing my delete and wouldn't mind doing a cheap cleaning first...

I bought JLM - on its way here. They also make a DPF cleaner too, but they suggested a low mph burn off first. In Philly, many ruck places will do a DPF clean, and some have x5 expertise. I'm trying to find someone that has done it out there for confirmation. GlobeConect LLC for example. |

I got the dealer to acknowledge the 2017 SB where they talk about cleaning the DPF. They will be doing that now and seeing what happens. All other EGR warranty items, along with new paid for manifold since it passed the pressure test, have been completed.
SB 18 31 700 If this does not work, off to an industrial cleaner who has worked on BMW's before. It appears they clean them all the time in the 18 wheeler trucking industry. |

If you look just above the start of the DPF, there is a temperature or pressure sensor there. If you remove that sensor, the ceramic media is just behind it. I cleaned mine with the attached kit found on eBay. No issues.. just follow instruction to get it cleaned.

Didn't work..... Off for the DPF replace this week. Cheaper than buying a new/certified car.
Anyone know what happens if the DPF total fills up and I'd assume would be clogged? |

There is a DPF counter in the DDE that "expires" the DPF. It can be reset after a cleaning. I'm surprised the DPF itself is not covered under one of the 120,000 mile emissions warranties. Definitely file a case with NHTSA regarding it. Enough cases and BMW will be forced to extend the warranty on them or issue a recall. You will be entitled to a refund of this repair should either of those 2 things occur. |

There's a test procedure in ISTA to evaluate DPF back pressure. Bimmerlink also can read DPF status and values - not as extensively as ISTA, but still, enough to assess DPF health. |

I spoke extensively to a DPF cleaning person, and after I showed them what I had done they said not much more and likely that you got a lot of ash from short trips and it's in there like concrete. We won't know unless we remove, but that is expensive in itself. |

Whats it costing you in labor to get it replaced? im in a similar boat with my DPF being end of life (116k miles). Its gonna run me about 5k to hit a pothole.....or i could replace it at 5k at the dealer, curious if you're getting better pricing on the replacement labor?

Look out for a company specialised in cleaning particle filters, egr.
And do not trust an advertisement for some cleaning solution, specially if it's advertised something to do with Germany. (this is been written that buyers think ...must be good quality) Living in Germany so many repair shops, having their own YouTube channel make fun of these cleaning substances, as they will only do minimum cleaning. If your particle filter is clogged and normal regen cycle does not work, it is high time to get everything professionally cleaned. I.e. particle filter gets sort of "oven baked treatment, egr ...valves are "sandblasted " using ground nuts, residues will eventually burn to ashes and not do any harm Last edited by chumbedi; 06-29-2023 at 09:08 AM.. |
