IIRC, the stock diameter pipe is close to 2.75-2.8" but it's easier to use reducers for exhaust work rather than expanders.

What about cutouts? Then you have options.

Well, I got it done today. Had already removed the two resonators a few months ago and added an x-pipe.

Today had the muffler delete. Unfortunately the quad tips I had purchased didn't look great so decided to stick with existing tailpipes.

The sound is OMG. Just amazing. Completely blown away. How the V8 should sound. The guys at EMP Performance who did the work revved it in all three modes and the sound is great in all three but especially (as expected) in Sport.

Unfortunately didn't take any videos or sound clips as had to rush home for school run.

HOWEVER, there is the dreaded drone in the 1.8-2k range. I noticed it immediately and moreso in Comfort vs Sport.

So I think I will be going back and putting two custom resonators put in by EMP.

Other than that, a very happy bunny. 🥰

Post some sound clips when you get a chance!

Cold start... resonator & muffler delete with x-pipe. Did record a few from the cabin whilst driving but sound quality wasn't great so haven't posted. Will try and a do a few more with reves.

Are the two original resonators still there or did you remove?

My setup is resonator & muffler delete with x-pipe.

Yes, the drone is there but not to the point where I want to do something about it.

Maybe my tolerance is higher? 🤣

Surprised you still have drone with original resonators plus another two bullet resonators.

My muffler shop did say they'd add bullet style resontators around the x-pipe (not sure if before or after the x-pipe) if the drone was too much.

It will quieten down somewhat after a few hundred miles. That or maybe I've just gotten used to it? 🤔

So mine is an X6 which I believe comes with muffler exhaust valves. I managed to retain these as using OEM tips.

Perhaps, that's making a difference for me?

Your cold start and idle sound pretty much the same as mine. I’ll for sure do before and after (if I can fit something) vids.
I tried recording from the cabin whilst driving. Unfortunately it didn't come out as well as I had hoped. Will try again in the next few days.

Anyone try the Summit Racing mufflers, SUM-630436? They appear to be very similar to the vibrant 1141 and also made of 304 SS.

and is this the MF x pipe everyone is getting?

Hey Guys,

Have a 2018 X5 50i and been contemplating on performing a muffler delete to obtain more of the V8 growl. With that being said it's my current daily driver and I don't want it to be overly obnoxious and dealing with an annoying drone while cruising. I was thinking of purchasing the Vibrant 1792 resonators to incorporate the straight piping while still keeping the primary resonators on the the midpipes. I alsoseen some posts regarding x-pipes.

Could someone help guide me on their personal parts list to achieve what i'm looking for and maybe provide some sound clips. Would greatly appreciate it.

That's fine, I was just hoping if someone could take a few moments and provide some personal input as to what I described in my OP rather than searching thru 40 pages of archived material regarding different exhaust setups and achievements each individual may be looking for...

Keep the original resonators. Add an X pipe and remove the muffler and see how you get on.
