The majority of active members on this forum seem to be from the US, where they never had the 50D; only diesel they has was the 35D (equivalent to UK's 30D). I have a '14 40D, not the 50D, but in the absence of any others responses…
Now at 85K miles, the car has been rock solid. Mechanically sound, no squeaks, no rattles, truly drives like new. Issues: I had AdBlue problems at 80K, needed 2x NOX sensors and a MAF sensor replacing, cost £1800, a costly failure but the only charge outside tyres, fuel and servicing in a 7-year old car so I can't complain; oh, and it was subject to the recall for EGR cooler, no biggie, replaced by BMW at no cost to me.
If you get the right car, with the right options, I'm sure you'll not be disappointed.

@[Cranswick852] Thank mate for the response much appreciated... I have only driven BMW since i passed so had a fair few in my time. I think ive posted on most of these forums board on this site. I usually buy from dealer for peace of mind 1st year get the used car warranty so anything happens just take it back. It just good to know from forum members before i buy so i can be mindful when buying that some of the issue are resolved before i Buy.

Thanks

Again for your help

2014 M50d owner here, 160k miles on the clock so far.

Nothing major went wrong so far, most annoying issue related to this engines are cold start rpm wobble - nobody really knows for sure what's the culprit. In my case the problem was MAF sensor, but the diagnosis was a real hell. Expensive hell. Apart from that, the injectors are really fuel sensitive (good UK based joke, eh?). Some minor bibs and bobs here and there, very expensive valve cover replacement is pretty common - and that's pretty much it. Pretty expensive boat to own, is it worth it? I suppose it is, depending on your wallet of course.
