What is this air leaking noise in front of car when braking?
Hi guys,
Need some help here. I honestly don't know if this is a problem with the brakes or not. Basically under moderate-hardbraking, from the front left of the car, it sounds like air leaking from the tire. the noise is made for probably 1/5 of a second (It's sounds like when you hook a tire pressure guage up and that little bit of air leaks out when you connect it to the tire). Although it only happens under moderate-hard braking, that is when all the weight is being brought up front, increasing the load on the tire, and thus if there was even a small hole it would leak a little. Under braking, I feel nothing unusual in the pedal and the car stops on a dime. I am very concerned right now as I have a track event this weekend which means lots of hard braking and something will need to be done soon if it is a problem with the brakes or tires!! Could this be related to something in the brake system? Anyone else have an issue like this? Thanks, quick responses very appreciated! |

Have you cleaned the brakes on driver front yet? Probably just some grit or a small stone.
The only time I've ever heard the air coming out of my tires was during a catastrophic puncture. I picked up a 6" bolt over 3/4" wide with the front tire and it was thrown back to the rear, from the damage the bolt went in almost sideways. It took a hex nut into the tire with it, the sound it made was amazing. Also assuming you've checked tire pressures. Too easy to rule that out.

Yea I checked the pressures. I took the wheel off just to scan for anything that might be visible. I even put the whole wheel in my pool to see if I could find any bubbles. At this point I don't think it's the tire. I guess I have to do some more driving . . .

Well, just an update on this. I think I narrowed it down to just being the brakes squeaking in a certain way that makes it sound the way it did. k
