Chrome door handle inserts
My father's Mercedes has these chrome handle inserts that go inside the recess in the door. Apart from looking great, they seem to protect the insides from scratches. Personally I am careful but that can't be said for other people who ride in my car. So it's scratched up in there.
Anyone have a recommendation for a good one since BMW doesn't seem to offer this as a factory accessory. |

Theres a reason BMW doesn't offer it...COZ ITS GROSS!
I know its to each their own, but I have an urge to when I see those on any car! PLEASE don't do it! No offense at all...just stating my own opinion. If you like it, by all means you should do it! Good luck

I want something that covered up the scratches and prevents more in the future. I don't think they look that bad.
The problem is I don't see any ready-made solution to this and certainly BMW doesn't off any solution/product for this. |

if you are concerned install paint protection film. adding chrome trim and inserts is gaudy and not very appealing however preference is subjective to each individual and their tastes so YMMV.

Just say no!
Reminds me of the old days when people used to keep the plastic wrappings on couches to protect the longevity of their furniture. Some people love chrome way too much.. Everyone has different taste... for me its

Hey now!!!!! That Merc is my DD!! How dare you!!!
Here's mine. Notice I even removed the lower chrome strips above the rockers. In all seriousness, yes, remove as much chrome as possible IMO. I indeed went with little PPF ovals inside the door handles. Work like a charm and cost me $10.

Thanks, @kzang.
All of it was DIY, too, since MB does not have anywhere near the enthusiast community as BMW does so they don't offer Shadowline. To get back on topic, if you just like the look of the chrome inserts, OP, go for it. eBay would be your best hope. If protection is really what you're going for, just take a rough measurement of the inner cup size and ask the PPF shop to cut four rounded rectangles to that size. That's what I did and the shop did it for me no questions asked.

Okay maybe chrome would look weird on the X5. I'm looking for suggestions. I am open to a color colored option as well, but it needs to be more scratch proof than what I have now which looks like a scene out of a horror film.
The chrome inserts to me don't look that bad, but I'm not a big fan of chrome either. Actually I wouldn't mind say satin aluminium inserts. But the chrome on the Mercedes definitely looks okay compared to the other two pictures. |

I'm wondering how that'll look down the line with dirty and grime.... And will it look worst than being scratched up in there?

My guy includes these as a part of the Xpel treatment on my X5.
Should be several installers who will hook you up in SJ.
