Appreciating the M3 as a DD

Lately I have been putting a lot more miles on my DCT '13 since I got back from college for winter break.

I never used to use D mode, but I am finding that D3 is actually wonderful for just putting around. Crazy smooth shifts, saves gas, all around awesome. In traffic I find that D mode works great too.

I used to drive 99% in S5. This just makes me appreciate how wonderful this car is even more.

Overall comfort level is a 9.5/10. Such a happy camper.

Times are tough for the kids today. It was uphill both to and from school when I was a kid and I had to walk.

I totally appreciate this car as a daily driver. I kept my e46 warm in the garage and only put 3k miles on her a year... never again. I love daily driving my e90

Yup, the M3 is one of the greatest daily drivers around...it would be pretty much perfect with a larger gas tank and better fuel economy.

If you drive a 6MT you don't have to worry about driving comfort... since you know..... you're actually in control of your car....

I too was 40 when I bought my first M3. I will DD all summer. It is just too damn cold here in winter. Not fair to any car to be started when it is -30ºC outside.

And 6MT FTW!!

Mine is my dd mule as well. Having a ball taking and bringing back the kids from school. My oldest is paying attention to the shifts as she wants to learn how to drive a manual.

Since day one, haven't stopped driving it... Cross country trips from San Diego to Toronto (2x), this thing is a tank!!! Car has 100k miles, and still sounds and runs like new.

Been my DD since I bought it (used) in 2011. Now has 86k miles and going strong.

As for a college kid having an M3, well, let's just say I am happy for him/her but I did not have that luxury until much later in life.

Bought it with my own cash, so no shame in making the most of it.

It’s not really your own cash when you are that young unless you have been living on your own and supporting yourself.

I do live on my own. I pay a large majority of my tuition, and all my rent and living expenses. I have been working since I was 13 years old to afford the things I have. This likely wasn’t feasible for your generation, but the internet provides opportunity for people of all ages to make any amount of money they want, provided they are driven and intelligent enough to take advantage of it.

No hostility intended.
