iDrive screen off
Was messing around with the voice activation button and said something that turned off the iDrive screen.
Did people know this was a possibility? I had no idea and sometimes get annoyed with it at night and even at the dimmest setting, it can be bright. Had the car for three years and didn't know. Well if you have iDrive hump and the voice activation button. Press it and say "display off" and it will shut it off. Cool if didn't know and you've wanted the option to shut it off from time to time. |

You can use the little scroll wheel thing too. Just go to any page, push it right once or twice (I forgot) and display off. On the map go to settings and turn it on night mode.

i've turned it off once before on a road trip at night. it was nice.
i've said it before, if i balled up my car, i'd get a car with the only option being zcp. i really wouldn't miss the idrive.

I didn't even realize you can do it from the menu, so I feel a bit silly making this thread. Cool that you can turn it off nonetheless.
Also with nightmode, I dont think that turns if off. Just changes the map to a "dark" mode |

I turn it off at night all the time, didn't know I could do that with voice though. When I have it off, it does make me wonder what life would be like without the screen at all. I don't use it for nav, the vehicle info is pointless, media info for bluetooth streaming tends to just lock up. The only time it seems useful is when you are changing a setting.

Agree with the Nav for sure. Vehicle info... I do check the oil indicator from time to time but yeah something you can see on the dash anyway.

I did ball mine up, and the one I will get won't have ZCP either. No point when I'd be running aftermarket software, coil-overs and wheels. I'd probably still want DCT. Not sure if there are such bare-optioned cars out there.

hmm makes sense. It's funny the progression of M3 ownership and the needs of owners. Back in 2010 when I bought my car, it was all about "balling it up", tick every option you can afford. But today, even legacy owners like you and I see minimum usefulness on things that go out of date quickly like navigation. In 2008, built in navigation was still a rare option. Today, it comes standard in a lot of cars. Back in 2008, no one saw how quickly something like CCC can become outdated. Hell in 10 years, BMW has already moved 3 iterations of idrive already (CIC, NBT, and NBT Evo) anyways...what's "balled up" mean?

The problem is, in current generation cars, BMW has made significant differentiations in its product line. So today, ZCP cars always got a power bump (you said you were going to tune anyways), a different exhaust, suspension tweaks and steering tweaks. Basically, the new ZCP changes are significant in which people will actually care about getting a ZCP car, unlike the E46 and E9X ZCP. This is the main reason I my M6 in ZCP

One thing that baffles me is BMW didn't make the idrive change between day/night mode automatically. That is one thing I do miss on my Lexus, whenever the headlight turns on the screen changes to night mode. So much easier on the eye.
