Front plate ticket
Can cops give you a no front plate ticket at the mall? I got a stupid no front plate ticket while I was at a mall in LA county. I have never had a cop bother me in OC or Riverside county bother me for no front plate. LA county sure sucks if the cops can go around private property ticketing no front plates and window tints.

Are you under the impression somehow a mall is a safe haven from infractions?

My car was parked in the parking lot for over an hour before the ticket was issued. The ticket has a time on it. So the cop was just going around ticketing cars with no plates and tinted windows. There was a girl who just bought a new car and haven’t received her plates for a ticket for no plates. One dude got a ticket for front window tints. This is total bs.

So what you’re saying is a cop can ticket you for any none moving violation anywhere they want to? So a cop can ticket you for no plates, tinted windows, lowered, modified exhaust....etc while your car is parked in your driveway way? If the cop caught me driving around with no plates, I have no beef.

Yeah, I always thought those lesser infractions were icing on a moving violation if you were ever pulled over legitimately. But then I parked my car on a Chicago street and 2 hours later I have a no plate ticket. First and only I've ever gotten in my life.

Cerritos mall. Go at your own risk if have tinted front windows and no front plates or no plates at all. You’ll be donating to their pension.

Those aren't moving violations. Those are just base equipment DOT standards the car has to meet according to whatever state. If a cop REALLY wanted to, he could ticket you having painted reflectors (I'm basing this information on an anecdote regarding this exact scenario, although I do not hold 100% certainty in its factual accuracy). As annoying as it is, I believe that yes he can ticket you for those things. Not sure about your personal driveway.

I say take this ticket to court and judge will dismiss it. First, mall parking is private property and police has no traffic jurisdiction. Second, the car is parked and no one is in the vehicle. Is there a law require license plate to be placed on car that is parked in private property? A driver could decided to take his/her license plate with them shopping and put it back on before driving the car.
Stupid police or city will try to give you ticket for things they can't enforce. I remember received a red light traffic cam ticket while driving my mom's car ages ago. All my mom did is tell them she is not the one in the picture and not going to tell who is. Case dismissed. |

Street parking is for sure where they can ticket you, but in a private lot that's ridiculous. Doesn't the ticket have the location where you were ticketed? I'd plead not guilty.

I don't know about California, but in NY cops can give out tickets for tinted windows only if they use a device to measure how much percentage of lights are transmitted through the window. Without rolling down the window half way, it can not be measured. They can't just write a ticket for a parked car by simply saying it looks too dark. They can, but you can fight it in court and guaranteed it'll be dismissed. |
