Tuned M4s, what tyres do you run?

Hi Everyone!

I've been reading for days on replacement tyres for my M4. I was originally going to get Pilot Sport 4S but now leaning towards RE71R.

The car will be street driven, but I don't care too much about tyre wear and want to make sure this thing hooks up properly once the standard bolt-ons and tune have been done.

Currently I have the standard Pilot Sports and traction is horrendous!

So decided to sign up and ask the community...

Who here has a tuned M4:
- What mods do you have and what power are you making?
- What tyres do you have?
- Can you floor it in 2nd without breaking loose? and what about 1st?

Thanks

Cup 2s are excellent once you get some heat into them, If I see 25 degrees C on the rears on tyre monitor I know they are good to go, from there they heat up quickly and have seen them up to 65C on the road. You will not light them up in second, might see a flicker in first , but not when they are 40C .Our average ambiant temps where I live are around the 18-22 degree C from spring through summer.

Thanks Melvyn, is your car modded? If so what are the mods?

Running PS4s with BM3 stage 1 tune in size 265/35/19s front and 285/35/19s rear. I can put all my power down no problem. This was not the case with the stock MPSS tires.

No matter what, you are still going to break traction in 1st and 2nd. Roll on the throttle, not stomp it.

You run cup 2s only in the rear?

I just mounted 285/35/19 r888r's and couldnt be happier. Very difficult to break traction, even with launch control at full boost/RPM.

That's exactly what I'll be running this weekend after costco install my PS4S's and then I'll install the BM3 stage 1. My MPSS tires truly suck, I lose traction even with stock tune at 3rd gear. What settings do you use for M1/M2?

You will be very happy! You might rub a little bit against the plastic fender well covers at first if you have spacers, but it's nothing major.

M1= MDM, sport+ throttle, sport steering, and sport suspension
M2= Full traction, Efficient throttle, sport steering, and comfort suspension.

M1 is my go to in regular driving conditions

I can't tell you how crazy the difference is from the crappy stock MPSS star spec tires.

I recently changed the M1 (my go to) from normal traction control (on) to MDM, and what a difference it makes! Full DSC on makes the drive way too boring and too many times the engine just revs and nothing moves, MDM is the perfect balance between DSC on and completely off. I also use Sport+ throttle and Sport (not +) steering and find it to be a good balance for daily driving. Don't have spacers so that shouldn't be an issue for me Can't wait for this weekend to test out the tires and BM3 tune!

You won't break traction in 2nd with the cup2s on, with some heat in them. Them R888s will be the same.

I'm very pleased with the R888R's. Incredible traction, smooth ride, slightly more noise than the MPSS's, but totally within acceptable range. Granted I don't have many miles on them, I don't know how long they will last, but at current tread depth they handle rain and standing water just fine.

For street only just get ps4s is good enough. Almost impossible to have r compound tire heat over 130f on street unless driving crazy
