Brake pads. OEM or aftermarket
I did a search on it but lots of different results. Want to see if you guys have any opinions.
Parts only: Akebono $140 no sensors ($190with) Ceramic. OEM $330 including 2 sensors Brembo $130 including 2 sensors (Low Metallic) Brembo $100 including 2 sensors (Ceramic) Akebono lots of people like which I never used before. OEM is great but didnt try other brands. Brembo brand which uses on our M class cars. Dont know why the Low Metallic is more expensive then the Ceramic which most people preferred. .

OEM is often an over priced crap shoot...make that way over priced.
And OEM normal rotors, not the performance stuff...absolute crap... Take the Bermbo's |

germanparts.ca for quick parts look-up
No prob at all dust wise......cost installed...for all for corners..was under 550 Canadian (410 USD)....in under 4 hours. The trail of debris was swept-up after the vehicle sat in garage for 3 weeks...in July 18...before the brake job... |

Yes, bought on sale... all four corners, rotors, pads and sensors...2015 F25 28i
Dealer cost would have been 3 times that... Just added the rotors at the website I mentioned... who also have 12% off these costs...I bought the fronts from these guys, the rest local...The quote is for Brembo. Rock auto does not do Brembo.. but have great prices on sensors/pad options also.. Last edited by Bilbofraggins; 02-28-2020 at 09:39 PM.. |

Best all round combination I’ve used with drilled Zimmerman rotors on my E38, E39, F10 & F15 for the better part of twenty years.

Did you all use a guide (Youtube, doc, etc) or just dive in? Typically I try and find a video to explain the steps but the F15/2016 X5 seems to be lacking.
Are there any out of the norm tools needed? How do you handle the e-brake? Assuming you just compress the caliper as you would with any other vehicle using a caliper tool. |

I’d previously helped on a Subaru Outback...the F25 X3 was much the same.... I removed the EPB and retracted the piston by hand using a Torx (clockwise).
Just basic tools.... I did watch a You Tube video...but It’s really quite straight forward...I’m sure there is one to meet your needs. I remember the Subaru service folks telling my friend you need “special tools and their computer” because of the EPB.... and that everyone, Indys included won’t touch the rears. Total nonsense... Good luck... Just found this... I took the EPB off...then retracted the piston....this video looks like he removed the caliper with the EPB on...I'm sure there are others to watch... I just replaced my X5 rotors and pads with Centric Posi-quiet ceramic pads and the "premium" rotors. I paid $331 from CarID. I've used Akebono and Stoptech products on many BMWs. If you want to go ceramic for low dust then I can tell you the pads will loose some of the initial bite. Nothing has initial bite like a BMW OEM pad, however they dust like crazy. You'll get used to the feel of the new pads. I recommend to anyone to watch some DIY videos and attempt the brake job yourself given brake jobs are some of the most overpriced services.

I got the set of Bremo rotor and Brembo ceramic pads. It is prettier and has much more bite then OEM.
I got the ceramic which most people got. How is it different than the Low Metal ones?
