Consequences for driving with CEL? (180001, and 180101)
I have a 2017 X6M, it's throwing 2 codes. 180001 and 180101. I believe this is from faulty pre-cat o2 sensors.
Does anyone know what the consequences of driving the car like this are? More specifically, is the car going to run rich as a safety precaution? I'm about to leave on a road trip to CO, and the car already gets dog shit gas mileage. My dilemma is that I can get the parts shipped, and save $200 w/lifetime warranty from FCPEuro, OR pay $300 more, get the parts right now from BMW and fix it, and not have a lifetime warranty. I'm supposed to leave in 2 days... So if it isn't going to kill my gas mileage, then i'll ship the parts and do it when I get back. Else i will probably end up saving money in fuel by doing it right now, and paying more for the part. UPDATE: To answer my own question, the car will run rich. gas mileage will be total trash. replacing the pre-cat o2 sensors resolved the issue. part # 11787576673 Last edited by msdss; 08-06-2021 at 01:43 AM.. |

If that's your only vehicle, then fix it before you go on your road trip. Why risk getting stranded or damaging the engine or other component to save a few bucks? While the warranty is nice, you need the vehicle running, and it sounds like you need it running now.
Just my $0.02.

Well that's my question right?
What are the consequences of driving the car with these 2 codes? If the answer is nothing, then im going to save myself $300, and fix it when I get back. If the answer is something, then i'm going to fix it now. |

Any mods?
Reduced fuel economy should be the bulk of it. Lets say in theory that the cats are still in good shape, and this is only a sensor related issue; you could potentially damage them - resulting in a high ticket repair. Otherwise you should be fine. All the best and keep us posted as to how things turn out. -Reef |

I assume that running off a default table instead of live data is all thats going to happen. But the table is going to have richer fuel maps for safety reasons. I just said fuck it, and bought 2 pre-cat sensors from BMW. I'll throw those in tonight, and fingers crossed the codes go away. |
