Tire popped on freeway
Hey guys my rear tire popped on the freeway today. I called all the tire stores that were open( sunday) and the size 325/30/21 is on back order.
I saw there was a brand new set of Accelera Iota all season tires. Anyone have experience with that brand. I know it's a generic / not popular brand

Is it safe to run Michelin PS4 with a mfg date of 2017? Brand new and stored properly.

I put accelera on my old 4.8 e53 and they were horrendous, sat next to a Michelin the tread tapered in from the sidewall giving approx 3" narrower tread which reduces the contact patch hugely. Rolling radius is also shockingly different so the f85's already delicate transfer box may take a whooping. I'd rather walk than use those again

Until the supply chain recovers, you may want to grab what you can get....or I (or someone else for sure) may end up taking them.. If you don't like them, you can always sell them later on when Michelins readily are available.... (and off-topic, our local Costco is out of toilet paper, AGAIN!) |

You could always go a size smaller like 315/35-20 or 315/35-21 if tires are that hard to find.

Finished the tire swap. First impressions , on freeway driving and street driving , about 90% similar to PSS. Turn in is a lot sharper (perhaps due to stiffer / more straight sidewall)
One thing I am experiencing now is juddering during medium / heavy acceleration at the middle of the rpm band. It's not the tires, there's no shaking for vibration. But you can feel it thru the seat. Like from transmission? Anyone experience this before

That sounds like the transfer case, did you do the 4? There is a measurement if you do 2 like no more than 5mm difference between new and existing tread depth and really * rated is the way to go especially if doing a pair not 4

I'm hoping that a fluid flush and calibration solves this…. I'll take it to the shop tomorrow

In that case I would say it's the tyres and this is why the star rating is relevant, toyo may not calibrate there sizes as accurately. My thinking is it's the discrepancy between fronts to backs with the staggered tyres if you did all 4.
Try this if possible, mark a point on the side wall of one front tyre and one back with tippex (I believe you guys call it whiteout or something) do it at the bottom, drive a few hundred feet and get out and make sure the marks are both in the same place relative to the other like both at the very bottom. This should show up any size issue, if they are not right I would take them back quick as there not fit for purpose, save your money on a fluid flush as it's not going to do the box any good with odd size tyres. Brake cleaner gets the tippex off so you don't look a Wally! |

///M Collection,
This makes perfect sense, as the outer circumference of the tire maybe different, thereby causing the binding issue inside the transfer case, between the rotational speeds of the front and rear diffs.

Tire runout
Quote:
1) I have a similar issue with my MPSSs that I inherited on the vehicle. Very close to new when I bought it with one recently replaced. I get vibration in the wheel, pedal, seat, and in the rear view mirror. It's subtle, and more pronounced at the beginning of a drive which tells me it could be the tires. Dealer also had the best wheel shop around test the wheels for truth and they are 100% true. Barring any issue with my driveline, I suspect tire runout and/or damage. Hoping it goes away when I install snow tires, because a driveline issue might be challenging to find. Hopefully you have some bad tires or something and it's not driveline. 2) Because as far as I know new tires can do this as well. Specifically with Toyos and Continentals on another vehicle, I had vibration that would be more pronounced when the tires were cold and I hit the highway which is only 1 minute from my house. It would then dissipate and disappear as I drove and the tires warmed up. Have you tested this with cold and warm tires? Are you feeling the vibration exactly the same all the time? At the beginning and end of your drives? |
