Volkswagen's new Crossover...the Tiguan, son of Touareg.

Volkswagen to call Concept A "Tiguan"

Stuart Miles/Assosciated Press
23 July 2006

VW has announced that its Concept A design for its new compact SUV will be called the Tiguan.

The car, originally shown at the Detroit Motor Show last year will take on the Land Rover Freelander and BMW X3 and be the smaller brother to the company's Touareg model.

The name, was voted for by 350,000 readers of German car magazine AutoBild.

Readers had the choice of five names including Nanuk, Namib, Rockton and Samun and Tiguan.

A clear majority voted for Tiguan Volkswagen said.

Dr Wolfgang Bernhard, the chairman of the board of management for the Volkswagen brand said, "This unique event is demonstrative of how Volkswagen is opening up: we made a clear appeal to the market - potential buyers could help choose the name Tiguan. The positive reaction shows that this is the right approach."

"The readers had the choice of five names including Nanuk, Namib, Rockton and Samun and Tiguan...."

The Nanuk? I'm just getting used to Touareg...and now "Tiguan?"
Note to Volkswagen....please ask someone outside of Germany for suggestions for new model names.
Does anyone know how to spell Scirocco...without looking it up?
But at least Scirocco sounds cool when you say it. Tiguan?

Oh well, I think it's a cool looking car with great proportions- kind of sporty and utilitarian but a tad self-conscious...
tho I don't imagine the guy who's looking to get out of his SUV lease clamoring for the Tiguan...
I can't hear this....
"yeah, I traded in my Hemi for this Tiguan."

So, I'm curious if VW has a niche for this...and who that customer could be?

I'm starting to really like this - the fluid surface curvature looks unlike what I've come to expect from VW design.
This could be a very thrilling automobile...though I think it's a tease.
In actuality I think it'll end up being a scaled-down Touareg.
