I am pretty sure there are plenty of information on this forum you can search to answer your questions.
Most important is to get a vehicle with good maintenance history and regular oil changes ... it applies to everything. Those engines are reliable if well maintained.

I would only get the diesel if you are going to delete and tune the vehicle otherwise the emissions parts will cause a lot of issues in the long run.

Not always .... diesel engines are more robust and last much longer than gasoline. If consider driving the same vehicle for a long period of time/mileage certainly diesel is the option.

Important : short driving cycles is not favorable for diesel or gasoline engines but diesel suffers more from it ... specially EGR.

Emission systems on diesel are more complex (DPF, DEF and EGR) but they work very well. There is a lot of mis-diagnostics on diesel for lack of knowledge/exposure reason some opt to remove those emission systems which by federal law is illegal.

In summary it is totally possible to have diesel vehicle with all the benefits it brings and the emission systems active. They were designed like that.
