Question Suspension upgrade

I'm thinking of upgrading the suspension on my e92 with edc. but don't really care about the looks that much. all I want it to do is handle better. it just seems like there is a ton of body roll. and the rear dosent seem to be planted well. Im leaning towards the dinan, just not sure which stage to get and what the differences are... I also heard that the competition package is coming out in spring not sure if bmw can upgrade my suspension with that?

Great car!

There's a bit more than just choosing a brand and sticking with it. Were you ever planning to do any track day events? Your needs for different features might be the better indicator of what type of suspension upgrade you'll need for your car.

As for the Dinan upgrades, many owners feel that for the similar amount of money, they can upgrade to items that are a bit better in terms of performance.

You can check with BMW on how much they'll charge you for the competition package - but I wouldn't think it'd be very cheap.

Let me know if you have any questions! We're here to help out with your decisions for your new BMW!

I'm interested in this too. I've tracked a few times and the OP is right, even on EDC set in sport, the car has lots of body roll and the rear tents to not stay planted. I feel any suspension upgrade needs to address the issues on the track, for the public road, it's great as is and looks would be the main point. the track is where it counts. I'd like to know more too.

Ground control seems like a good option for the EDC guys.

If you're considering coilovers, KW Suspension has specific coilover applications for the E90 / E92 / E93 M3 with EDC. It comes with the emulator needed to make sure you don't get the EDC fault code on your car.

It's not a separate piece by the way, it comes as a part of the coilovers. The KW coilovers are regarded by many enthusiasts as a great performance upgrade for the track and street!

How about a set of RD's sway bar kit?

The only problem with the sway bars is you have to drop the rear subframe and that's about 6 hours labor.
Also, BMW doesn't exhactly have the greatest history with rear subframes and adding sways without coils seems to make things worse. Of note, I haven't seen any E9x cars with rear subframe failures, so maybe they fixed finially.

The rear subframe issue is mostly E30, E36, and E46-related. I can understand your concern though.

EDC-equipped cars are also limited to what sway bars can be used.

Please take a look at all the sticky threads. There should be a lot of good info there. If you have anything else specific let us know.

Don't expect the comp package to be a track package. I just ordered a car with it, but it will be a street car. If heavy track use is your thing, I would suggest the standard suspension, then replace with a track focused suspension package. When you say the car has a "ton of body roll", I'm not sure I totally agree. There is movement for sure, but it's pretty well controlled. The real problem in trying to get a car this heavy to handle better on track, especially with sticky tires, you have to get the spring rates and damper settings to a point that is miserable on the street.

I would get V3's and call it a day but if you got extra money to blow I'd also get the RDSport sway bar kit or Dinan front sway, and put 295-305 rear tires, 255-275 front tires.
