Congrats on the 128i... You might miss a few ponies but it's a great car overall either way... Turbo or NA

Sweet sti. I came from a evo8 heavily modded. Miss the power but not the maintenance of turbo and mods. Overall happy with my 128i. What color 128i you get?

Congrats on the car! Downgrade in pure power doesn't mean it's a downgrade in any other sense

Most STI and Evo guys that switch over to the 1er go for the 135i, similar power and they're both turbo. I'm also curious why you went with the 128i versus the 135i. For some people on here, they're fed up with turbos and the problems they create, in the N54 engine and otherwise. Others are tired of the quest for more horses haha. Any particular reason for you?

Anyway, post some pics of the 1er too! And congrats again

Is the white car a station wagon? Maybe it's a Photoshop or something?
Anyway, congrats on the 128i, great car!

First, he should "HAVE GOTTEN", not "of got".
Second, by "not much" do you mean engine mods? Anything else you can do to a 135 you can do to a 128. Plus you have smoother power delivery, no turbo lag, and a fuel pump that won't fail. All pluses. The 128 is plenty fast.

Thanks guys! I got an Alpine White 128i, loving how clean it is at the moment

As for why I switched, I actually planned on selling the STI either way. My original plan was to not have a car at all for college next year since I'd be living in apartments near school and would be able to take the bus/bike to campus. This was my plan for a few months, but something down the line changed and felt it'd be a better idea to have a car, and something a little more reliable at that, and what's more reliable than a bimmer without the hpfp problems

As for the power.. I definitely miss the STI, but for a daily, I feel that the 128 has more than enough to get me around town. I'm not really looking to mod too much anyway, so going with the 128 was fine with me.

I love my 128i. It is definitely plenty fast enough for me. Enjoy your new car!

PS- I'd still get to campus another way to avoid having to park a new car on a college campus!

Welcome, and nice choice. There is nothing "fast" about a 300HP car, so 230 in a 128i will do you just fine!

I don't mean to start a war here, but the term "fast" is subjective. I consider my car plenty fast specially when compared to a 128i. Just the torque off the line shreds the 128i.

I think people are not wording their reactions properly, and some can come across as rude. Like many others on this thread, I am surprised to see that he traded a more performance-oriented machine for what I consider a refined but not-so-aggressive ride.

The whole "smoother power delivery, no turbo-lag, blah blah blah" is old people. For those who don't know the N55 delivers full boost at 1200rpm's (~1500rpm for the N54); now if you consider that "lag" then you certainly are not familiar with major turbocharged applications that need to spin up to 3500+ rpm's in order to get the turbo spooling. I haven't had a single issue with my car in almost 21k miles since I purchased it brand new...but even if I did, I would pick the "lag" and "faulty" HPFP all day long if I had to do it all over again.

To the OP: congratulations on the new ride. If you love it, that's all that matters regardless of power. As long as your reason for getting it is not any of the irrelevant and repetitive ones given above

Welcome!
I came from an Infiniti G35 Coupe. I miss the grunt at times.
But overall the 128i is a MUCH superior car. Just a different driving experience.

The post above is my opinion. Woo Hoo to you for buying a 135i, but it's not the right car for everyone. Also all the HP is useless for driving around town or on trips, unless you like having your car impounded for speeding and have a bank account big enough to pay for the tickets. I also don't understand why people here are always like the 135i is the best, My d*ck is bigger then yours, etc. It's a car. End of.

First, congrats on the new car, and enjoy college.

Second, ignore the 135i owners who probably haven't driven a 128i, a half a second 0-60 is not the difference in a fast or slow car. Naturally aspirated motors are certainly more fun, plus you'll enjoy better mileage and no HPFP failures.

Generally speaking, the crowd you find on an automotive forum tends to be the more performance oriented group. I don't think I'm off-base in saying that most automotive enthusiasts crave higher performance which is what the 135 offers over the 128. Those are the facts.

As for the subjective portion, I find the increased horsepower to be very helpful in passing on the highway and pulling into traffic. I seldom exceed 80mph and have yet to be pulled over in my 135 in the 2 years I've had it so those assumptions are unfounded.

In the end you should always buy the car you want and not care what anyone else thinks. I can't tell you how many snickers I used to get in the Exige when people found out it only had 190hp. I simply smiled and never let it bother me. It may benefit you to do the same.

Notice the difference between your post and mine. I simply set the record straight since it appears that quite a few 128i owners have a large array of misconceptions regarding the 135i. You, on the other hand, turned it into a comparison, providing a bunch of lame/useless/irrelevant excuses as to why someone should buy a 128i over a 135i.

If you simply said: "hey, I bought a 128i because that's what I wanted and I can appreciate what it has to offer, end of story", I'm sure many of us wouldn't have even bothered in responding. But coming in here and attempting to convince that one is better than the other was a very weak attempt.

This is not about 0-60. The 135i outperforms the 128i in every shape and form, and that is expected from a more powerful power plant, no need for bragging. By the there is nothing useless about all the HP, I make use of it under acceleration, while cornering, passing, etc, and I gotta tell you, what a blast!!! There is not a single day that those 300 ponies and 300 lb-ft of torque don't put a smile on my face
