F15 M-Sport vs XLine
Hello,
After building X5 xDrive35i xLine with Multi Contour seats, the price came out very close to X5 M Sport build. Multi Contour seats were not high priority for me but decided to take them as may owners on this forum described them as must have. They are not must for me now but never know in next 6 to 8 years ( i am willing to keep the car at least 6 years). Now, M-Sport comes with Sports seats and Sport Automatic Transmission. What is sport automatic transmission compare to the transmission available on xLine? I am now in dilemma between xLine vs M Sport. M Sport has always been rolled out option given the price ($4600). But, with Multi Contour seats, the price is coming same as xLine. (Although, M Sport comes with Sport Seats and they are looking nice too). Should i consider M Sport for better resale value? your thoughts please. |

Great question. I thought they were the same but would be interested in an answer. I just find the Msport front bumper and the overall trim to be rather plain and staid. For me the xLine looks fantastic. I can live without the paddle shifters since it is an automatic and not a real dual clutch transmission. If I get an X5 I'm going xLine with the dynamic handling package.

I think X5 M (Not M Sport Package) offers launch control.
Few key factors of M Sport: Bumper changes (both front and rear) Shadow line trim (black one with high gloss) Steering with paddles. M Label at the door entrance M label on Wheels (different wheels) Two extra modes in transmission and Sport Seats. More value for money in M Sport compare to xLine. IMO |

"Launch Control included with sport automatic transmission" Considering that the sport-tranny is required for launch control on the other models, I"m assuming it applies to the F15, too: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=836752 "Moreover, the eight-speed sports automatic transmission available for the BMW 1 Series, the BMW 3 Series and the BMW 6 Series will be complemented by the new Launch Control function(...)" One thing I've learned over the years... Don't make car buying (or house buying) decisions based on perceived resale value. The theoretical difference in resale value of A vs. B is such a small amount, and ultimately, it's just a guess anyway. Especially if you plan on keeping the car for 6 years, get what you want. You have to live with it and if you regret not having something and end up getting a few hundred or even a thousand more for it 6 years later, was it really worth it? I say get what you want. I will have to make these same decisions in a few months and resale value will not be part of my decision making process.

Fyi, i was in the same dilema. Sat in sport seats at dealer and liked them. I swapped to msport from xline w luxury seats. Trade off to me was ventilated seats for the extra sport+ mode, paddle shifters ( which i loved on my previous. Car), and access to carbon color. I also wasnt thrilled w being forced to running boards on xline. Cost difference was $200 for change to msport.
Fyi, if you want multi contour or luxury seating the pkg price will get reduced by $350 on the system for giving up the sport seats if you still want luxury. |

So, we have asked the dealer to provide a car with Multi contour seats to experiment them. Seriously, they look awesome and definitely soft compare to base seats. However, the extra 10 power adjustments may not be for everyone. I am 5.6 and those bolster, thigh adjustments don't make any difference to me in terms of comfort. Also, I found running boards are immensely helpful for children boarding the car and of course it adds to looks. Overall, I have been liking xLine given those silver accents and overall bumper design and wheels. M Sport looks much better on e70 and I don't see similar sportier look on F15. I am looking for more luxury or contemporary looking choice with some functional advantages. Also, brown is not available in M Sport. Black or white are my picks for m sport. So, I think I will be happy with xLine with out Multi Contour seats. May be I will spend M Contour seats on ACC stop and go OR Harmon Kardon audio. |

1 comfort 2 sport 3 eco ( a new mode) Sport+ from the press releases appears to be a 4th mode that is on msport and above. Cant be certain, however i am pretty sure. This extra mode apparently adds launch control and a little better acceleration in the plus mode. I a, sure you lose mpg in this mode as well. My belief is bmw got forced into launch mode option bc jeep srt has it and people brag about in not being on x5. I cant really figure out where i will use it ever. However it sounds cool but was not a factor in my decision. Getting carbon black exterior was important to me. It is an awesome color that i wanted but didnt know it was csrbon black tht i liked. I thought it was some older blue that isnt available anymore. |

3 cas and the owner told me ventilated seats are a joke. Read the forums on here feedback is about 80% people who wouldnt pay for it agsin on a bimmer. Other cos ssem to have better systems. I personally dont need 20 way adjustments. I just needed an upgrade from the stock seat as it hit my legs awkwardly. I am content w sport seat and the msport add ons vs comfort seats. |
