And why? I am asking all of you guys to advice with you experience and honest opinion. I really appreciate it and thank you all in advance. |

But if I must answer, use the 42k to buy a good 2009-2010 E9X.

Definitely a no on option 1. Rule that out, because you'll never be able to sell it. Either option 2.. the e46 M3 is awesome, or find a better e9x that doesn't have a salvage title.

Agree with dsm918. Those two cars are miles apart in price and don't seem like valid comparisons.
To further not answer your question... You don't want the hassle of dealing with any "rebuilt title" car. And while I haven't driven one, I haven't heard great things about the E46 SMG.

nothing wrong with a rebuilt title if it's fixed properly. It only scares people away who have no idea...
And who buys a car thinking of the ramifications of selling it??? It's a tremendous deprec. asset...?? Buy them for yourself; not the next guy |

But rebuilt title has some problems in certain states getting registered, insured and financing for it I think. Also you do not get any warranty. Would have to be a huge discount with the intent of driving it into the ground by someone who knows how to maintain it themselves. Just my opinion.

Find out the reason(s) why it has a salvage title. The E92 M3 will be very hard for you to sell down the road. If you were to purchase it, plan to keep it for a long time to maximize its use.
DO NOT buy a SMG E46, you will encounter issues. Get to know potential problems with used M3s by researching forums. Good luck.

Rebuilt title = no thanks
Difficult to insure, difficult to get a loan on. Could be constant headaches down the road.

I think the major stumbling point on the R title is that you are buying the car "as is." This would make me extremely nervous on any car i couldn't comfortably afford. If your car has bearing issues for instance, you might have to pay another $25k just to get it running again while still making regular payments on the thing. I don't have an opinion on the E46 other than $25K seems like a lot for a 10 year old car.

Hi dsm918, I am not directly comparing the two M3. I guess I wanted to ask which one is more car for the money, relatively speaking. I have decided not to buy either one of this particular m3. Negative feedback on both. I will keep my eye open though. Thanks |

SMG sucks. So that one is easy.
Salvage titles scare the majority of people away, so they can be a great deal. You have to know what you are looking at and determine if it is right for you. If you can't identify all of the issues with a salvage title car, then it might not be right for you.

I once thought about buying rebuilt e92 m3, but stay away from it.
Unless you know who fixed it, what was the damage, where was it fixed, were OEM parts used etc etc...... |

I say get an E9x with that $42k. I've had an E46 and it's no comparison, especially when it comes to SMG vs DCT.
Now, 'rebuilt' or an older 'clean title'... I think the answer depends on your goals. If you're someone who is going to modify it and keep it for a long time and drive/enjoy it, then get the rebuilt title, in my opinion. If you're someone who keeps their cars stock and probably won't keep it for more than a couple years, then I'd say get an older one with a clean title. That's just my 2 cents.
