Cost of front windshield replacement
Avoid a rock hitting your windshield if at all possible. At this point BMW oem part seems to be only one available and if you have a heads up display etc. you don't want a substandard windshield, BUT, the part alone is over $1300. The entire job is over $1700, and in my case we could reuse the rain sensor.
Be prepared for a fight with your insurer for the over the deductible amount they should pay.

Deductible on glass
Read your coverage carefully. Insurer may require use of certain type of glass they select, or only waive deductible if glass is repaired rather than replaced.

They refused to replace it because it was under "fixable" category. I didn't win and they did a patch up work and well... in the end I couldn't find where the crack was. |

Glad it works great on your repair job. To tell you honestly, I'd rather have it repaired if possible rather that replacing the factory seal of the brand new windshiled which will leave your x5 vulnerable from posible early rust and corrosion on seals all around the front frame.

I've had one replaced, not on the X5 but X3 we had before it. Was just a minor crack that I didn't want to get worse but didn't have to fix right away.. Replaced windshield no questions asked.
I agree people should know their coverage, but good policies cover this and will cover oem parts. One of the benefits of buying luxury cars is the availability of after market parts goes way down, so they often have no choice in terms of using inferior parts. |
