It appears everyone is talking apples and oranges. As my prior post in this thread (#21) suggests either I or you are misunderstood. Either way, I'd liike to know.
Getting HUD does not get you 6WB. To my knowledge there is no other display available other than 6wa for US F15s so I am not sure what you think you could have gotten by ordering HUD (which is great). The 6wa cluster has a digital bottom but the dials are analog. 6wb is all digital and not available as an option for US model F15s. You could retrofit yourself or use a BMW program announced last Nov. At any rate the cost of retrofit is high, and it is still no substitute for HUD (which is great....did I say that already?....because it is really great) Anyway, if I am misunderstood, I'd like to know.

i have both. i and i am saying its not worth fussing over. its not actually that useful once you get over the initial gaga.
do i want extended over base cluster? yes. do i want 6wb over the other 2? yes. now that i have both base cluster and 6wb will i fuss over not having 6wb? no. i certaily won't pay for HUD or 2k retrofit since it adds almost no real functionality. I would rather spend the money on other upgrades like MPPK/wheels/M sport/DHP/LED etc. difference between base and extended is ridiculously small. 6wb actually adds some bling but for US buyers its not even an option. case closed.

on that note, have you actually seen the exterior of the new q7? its basically a raised minivan with awd. to think that i waited to see what the new q7 looked like before getting the x5...

Only thing I like about the 6wa vs the basic is the backlit numbers in the dials
during daytime driving. The basic cluster is pretty dark, but it's not that big a deal. This is my first BMW.... I've owned 2 Lexus GX's and an Infiniti JX. I opted for the mocha nappa leather which comes with the leather dash. I'm just a sample of one, but, the interior fit and finish and quality of materials is the best I've ever seen in the luxury segment. Honesty, Lexus should be ashamed of the current crop of vehicles and the forthcoming 2016 RX. As for the Audi Q7, other then the digital cluster, I think it lags the X5 in looks and features. My only complaint with the X5 is the dreadful runflats that came on my 35d. It amazes me that I can drive a vehicle of this size and average 30mpg with mostly city driving. |

You should consider doing a 6WB upgrade. It's such a great eye candy. The navi direction will also be right in the center. I would do it every time.
I myself honestly do not see a quality issue with the resolution. I don't use a 4k monitor but I have numerous high-end 1440p monitors and I can definitely differentiate between shitty and eye-pleasing resolutions. The 6WB is definitely eye-pleasing. To compare, I have a 2015 MB S550 with the HUGEEE cluster as well as enough experience with the RR TFT cluster (mines a 2016 on order so I don't have it yet). It's a really, really easy mod to do. Took about 15mins to get it in and out. Fine maybe 20mins Quote:

Also, my guess is firmware updates are VIN based and they may be affected if the upgrade is not properly registered. |

I have both 6wb on f10 and base cluster (not extended) on f15. The navigation directions are identical on both because the directions on cluster are optimized for base cluster (not extended or 6wb). Yes I was shocked as well. BMW should sue the screen in 6wb more (like audi/porsche/ferrari etc.) and give better Nav on full LCD cluster.
