35i v 35d? And more on the 35d delays...
Hey what are your impressions of the difference in the drive between a 35d and 35i. I test drove a 2015 35d and found it quite fun, quite powerful (not my X6M, but pretty excellent actually - less turbo lag IMO). Thoughts?
Anyone have any facts on diff in emissions between 35d and 35i? I'm trying to decide whether to ditch going for the 35d and just get the 35i - dealer has lots of 35i on the lot. ********************* Latest from my BMW rep, when I told him I find the 35d delay troubling: "It is not troubling in the sense that there is a serious problem. I mentioned last week that China is a big import market of X5s. My understanding is BMW is tweaking the cubic cm of the engine so they no longer match the criteria needed to import them into that market. Same thing happened between 2014 and 2015 model years for the 35i engine. It is now the diesels turn I guess...."Can anyone make anything from this Chinese conspiracy theory? "BMW is trying to discourage the act of exporting US-spec X5 to other markets in the world. Currently there is an incentive for people doing such things, due to different tax regulations between the US and other countries. Take China as example: for privately imported cars, if the engine displacement is less than 3,000 cc, then the tax rate is 12%; but if the engine displacement exceeded the 3,000 cc mark, the tax rate will immediately jump to at least 25%. So this makes importing a X5 from US to China more expensive, to the point that the total cost for such privately-imported X5 is not cheaper than the same model sold by BMW in China officially." This is consistent with what my SA has told me about private export attempts they've encountered from their dealership (e.g. negotiate a deal on an X5 then, at the last minute, the buyer says "I'll take two" (or three)). Even a small displacement change would require changes in tooling, documentation, parts inventory, etc. and emissions certification. This makes sense as the reason for the delay rather than an imagined spill over of VW's dieselgate. |

X5 export problem. Ordered my 35d TODAY!
To pick up on what MotoWPK said, this makes sense. My rep said that there were tweaks being done to the cc. And further, upon delivery, we are required to sign a statement saying we will not export it out of North America.
Better news, I ordered mine today. Jan production 35d, Alpine White, Mocha Nappa, M package, black wheels. |

Allocations are filling up quickly. January allocations are done with all of the local dealers. I am being told February allocations have not been slotted yet.
Anyone care to share pricing that they are getting in Toronto area. |

2016 diesel base is now $67,800. Do you have something different?

35d...but once we are sure that it is 100% this time...
...so, if that's the case, then the wait begins....again! :-( Last edited by Shaw; 12-06-2015 at 11:13 AM.. |

They won't go below 5% either - feel like it would be a big fight for a small reward. They told me that they had jan allocations but nothing for feb yet so I am assuming it is real this time. I had my heart set on the 35i but a few of you had swayed me over to seriously consider the 35d. |

If the '16d is a go now, then the title of this thread has outlived its usefulness IMO drawing attention to a diesel risk that has not transpired for BMW. Shaw, may I suggest ".....had stopped, but has now restarted....." or something similar?
If BMW falls for the same diesel issues, there will be no shortage of threads covering the subject. Two cents. |

We paid a visit to the dealership and checked the 35i at hand that we ordered to make sure if all options we ordered on our 35d are keepers. This actually turned into an advantage for us as we were able to see an exact clone of our diesel free
So a quick observation for those interested: - Surprisingly the Extended Mocha Nappa Leather package came with "leather dashboard"...it's funny as the dealer wasn't sure during our order if the leather dashboard is included or not...well it is...This is great news which means the 35d will have it as it is an identical build... - We also checked the 3rd row and we were happy with it, so that option will stay. Options which I didn't have on my 2014: - ceramic controls looked amazing, specially with the leather dash... - the rear entertainment systems were stunning. My kids will love'em. - alums running boards help my kids get in the car easier. - I can find piece with the 449 style wheels as they are grey and go well with our space grey paint. |

Was 2VM standard with 3rd row seats? Or it may have been the rear axle air suspension. I read somewhere in the US you automatically got it with the 3rd row addition.
