Car Accident

Some kid decided to not stop at a light and hit me. So far damage is 12k but they haven't looked under car. The drivers airbags went off and both front and back passengers side. I was hoping it would be totaled, so I could get a new car. At least they are going to put my painted reflectors in for me. lol

Dang that sucks, glad you're okay. Like you said, any exterior mods that you planned on doing now is a great time to ask the bodyshop to do it for you.

As others have said, number one thing is that you and your four legged friend are fine. Shocked I'm sure, but fine. Hope they total it for you.
Did the kid hit you square in the wheel? I don't see "much" sheet metal damage?

Glad everyone is safe and OK. Look into your diminished Value laws in your state. If there is one you should be able to recover the value your car lost over and above the cost of repair. You car will now have a damage record so it's value is less and under dismissed value you are entitled to recover the loss in value from the at fault drivers insurance.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I believe so. I know the car came off the ground. The drivers side rim is messed up as well. Lady behind said she thought we were going to flip and it felt like it, thanks goodness we didn't.

Terrible. Glad you are fine. I was going to guess $14-18k in damage. It looks like four panels to repair/replace and paint, one wheel, airbags and headliner, wheel/rim, looks like suspension and steering components will be bent and will need replacing, possibly light housing, side panel below the doors, tire, alignment.....again, glad you are okay.

As my 82 year old father says, you can fix everything except death.

@ZuerstBMW , wow, glad you are OK.
I guess DOT need to revisit that front bumper reflector law. It didn't seem to effect your car being more visible to other driver.
Based on that damage on the passenger side front axle, I would be surprise if that car doesn't consider total. I bet the driver side axle is in much worse condition.
Also, I believe once you got the airbag all deployed, they would consider it total. Again, that is depending on your state law and the insurance company.

Might want to read your lease agreement, many have a damage clause and value loss ... Just protect yourself.

Not usually, depending on the value of car because airbags are expensive.

My understanding is if the value of the damage is higher than the value of the car then the insurance would total the car. Current value of the damage is 24K?

The value doesn't always have to be more than the cost to repair, there comes a point where they calculate what they can sell the salvage for and the cost to replace. Also they look at how much total damage there is. Most of the time in a bad accident they will repair the car and forever be chasing gremlins and add to the cost of the repairs over time.

They have a formula for almost ever vehicle out there to determine when to "Total" an auto. I've seen total's that you would have never thought should have been.
