Windshield film recommendations and HUD - issues?
Hey guys... I was in my buddy's car this past weekend and he has Llumar Air 80 installed on his windshield. The heat retraction was awesome but I noticed it was a bit grainy and wouldn't necessarily care for it on my car. After busting his balls for getting a subpar install, I did some online research and found it to be a common issue.
However, if there is a product that somebody knows about that is clear (no tint) and would provide a perfectly clear view, please let me know. Also, does anybody know if it would cause any HUD issues? |

I had clear ceramic tint on my E71, but I can't remember what it was. I think it was Llumar product, but it was 4y ago so the lineup is probably different now.
I was really pleased with it. It significantly reduced heat in the cabin. I didn't even use a window shade. I didn't find it grainy. The only thing I noticed was a slight rainbow effect around the edges. I didn't care about that enough to not want to get it again. I plan on doing my F16 soon. I had no HUD issues. |

I have considered 3M Crystalline CR90 to protect the leather dash. I don't have heat issues where I live. Have not been courageous enough to jump first. Also, not sure about the legality. Here are some before/after pictures and some discussion of legality: http://www.firstcoastglasscoatings.c...ndow_tint.html

Anything I do... I'm going to make the installer puts a scrap piece where the HUD would be ensuring there are no visibility issues. I don't necessarily want a tint... just a film to help reduce cabin heat.

I hear you.....the 90% tint is the closest 3M has to clear. I thought it might be an alternative to Llumar, which sounds like a great candidate for the sunroof, and front windows.

Didn't realize that. I have always used SunTek and had great results. The shop that is going to do my Modesta coat uses Llumar... so I might give it a shot.

He did. He had no issues whatsoever.
Now having looked more into myself, it seems the 3M product has similar specs, rejects more solar energy for the 90 film, but reflects 1% more light (not as good). My experience with 3M film on side and rear windows has been good -not grainy. I have no experience with Llumar. I am doing this additional research as I cannot stand it if Llumar is grainy, and I want to do the windshield. We need a side by side of CR90 vs. Llumar Air 90. 3M |

MattBianco, it would be great for you to be the guinea pig! Are you close to pulling the trigger on the tint? Please keep us informed, as I'd like to do the same thing. I could even use your installer if you end up happy.
