M Performance Brakes

Have any of you had the M performance brake kit installed on your f15? If so, could you give some feedback? Is it a big/worthwhile improvement over the stock system?

Unless you plan to track the vehicle you will probably never even use the capacity of the stock brakes.

@SpdAddictRY, I had it in my car, but then upgraded to Brembo.
I do suggest you to upgrade since I just drove a 50i with RaceChip installed.
It seriously need a braking upgrade and MPBK is the economical way to obtain that.

Thanks for the responses. I'm likely to add the Dinatronics Stage 1 tuner down the road, and figure if I'm going to upgrade the brakes I might as well get them covered under the initial warranty.

I've had them on mine for pretty much the entire time I've owned my truck. To me they were a worthwhile upgrade. Add in that they're covered by factory warranty and it's a strong value.

I drive aggressively (defensively, really). In the city they help when dealing with errant drivers.

Performance-wise you will benefit more from stickier tires. But nevertheless they look terrific and I'd like to get them done in the future, too.

Were your M Performance parts installed at the factory or done at the dealership before you took delivery?

Installed myself almost immediately after delivery. Brought to the dealer after to update the VO in the car to indicate sport brakes and also warranty coverage.

There are some amazing people in this forum with immense breadth of skills. I think you said you were a tech investor. You can also install complete brake kits. what can i say....impressive.

I had the standard brakes for one week, wasn't thrilled. Put the BMW Big Brake Kit on and what a difference! It's a shame you pay big money for the X5 and they don't come standard. I would recommend it out of all the options.

Haha! Wide range of talents, indeed. Make money, spend money. Especially on BMW parts.

Good news is that the X5 M I'm expecting has most of the goodies I put on the X5 already installed - big brakes, 21" wheels, etc.

I agree. I'm going to let my stock brakes wear out since they're still very new and then upgrade to the MBBK later .

True, I wonder how much that will cost though. Knowing BMW...most likely not cheap .

The current MBBK is the same kit from last generation X5m, maybe BMW will update the MBBK to the current generation x5m.

Shouldn't be that much more I hope!

That I know . However, considering that information, it's been around for much much longer. The F85 X5M isn't even delivered yet to many members, so like all car manufacturers, their new products will always be more expensive .

The M50d brakes are different to other models
Brakes, front
Twin-piston floating-calliper disc brakes
Diameter mm
385 x 36 / inner-vented

Brakes, rear
Single-piston floating-calliper disc brakes
Diameter mm
345 x 24 / inner-vented

where as the 30d has Brakes,
front
Single-piston floating-calliper disc brakes
Diameter
mm
332 x 30 / inner-vented
Brakes, rear
Single-piston floating-calliper disc brakes
Diameter mm
320 x 20 / inner-vented

So I was tempted to upgrade the brakes, however if there is any need I will wait until the stock version is ready to replace.

The Blue M callipers do look great though :-)

Did you have a friend at the dealership who helped you out? My dealership wants over 11 hours (at $160/hour) of labor to install the M performance parts. They said the only way it will be covered under the 4yr/50k warranty is if they install the parts before delivery. Otherwise, they will be subject to just a 2 year warranty if installed after delivery.

7 hours for the carbon fiber parts, 4 hours for the brakes. I'm pretty sure I could do it all myself on a Saturday afternoon in under 6 hours.

Ahh, that make sense. CF parts won't be that easy though.
