BMW X6 as a family car
Hello,
Me and my wife love the new x6, but we have 1 year old son. In two years we are planning to have another child. What do you think is the x6 a family car, and is it better than x5. I would like x5 or x6 but my wife only likes x6. please help |

I wouldn't get an X6 as a family car, but that's because I know I need the extra cargo space. If you're taking road trips and need to pack stuff for kids (like a pack n play) you're going to run out of space quick. If you just need it to drive around town, it will be fine. Both are great cars.

with a young family i'd say X5 all day long.
if you had older kids (which you don't by sounds of it) who don't like being seen with you in public which is most teenagers these days...then the X6 would be fine. I have a 15 month old and a 5 year old and the X5 is just about the perfect family car. comfortable, enough space for all the kids stuff (buggies, bags, toys, footballs this list is endless) and plenty of space in the back for them and easy access to get them in/out. each to their own...both great cars but with your family profile i'm sure most on here would say X5. |

I traded my X5 to upgrade to the X6 and will never look back. My son loves it as much as i do.

I want to swap my wife's car to an X6. My young son agrees with me. My wife and our older daughter think the X6 looks awful and the space starting the backs seat is unusable.
I think our situation sums up everything I have read about the difference between the X5 and X6 for the 1+ year I have been active on this board. |

X6 doesn't make sense at all. Cramped headroom, 3 passengers, and small cargo hold, you're better off with a X5 or 5 series.
My X5 can barely hold the stroller and bags with the cargo tarp |

@rotweiler , number 1 issue is the trunk space.
If you are good with that space, then the next question is how long are you planning to keep the car. Because that rear headroom won't be enough once they got into teenagers age.

X6 is more than fine. X5 does give you more rear headroom and cargo room (if you even ever need to fill it to the top.)
If you prefer the X6, it'll do pretty much anything the X5 will do for your fam, so have no X6 hesitations. |

I use X6. I have a 3.5yrs old son and 1 yr old daughter...He only told me to drive slower when I use sport mode driving 140km/s...
I had X5 b3fore and it was not so enjoyable as for the driving experience. I would not recommend X6 to you only if your children sit in your car every everyday, and you drive fast all the time... |

I would go for X5 for family. I loved my old X6 but it is less practical. Lower trunk makes it more dofficult for a big troller. Important thing is the rear doors that have a higher steep line meaning the window is higher and young kids see much less outside which makes them not so happy, also sun roof much bigger with X5 which also makes them happy. Again for driving experience i prefer the X6 bcs it is lower and looks cooler. I would not consider an X6 with kids anymore, though again i love the looks and handling of an x6

Buy the car you like, life is too short to drive one that you don't.
Yeah, the X6 is smaller than the X5 but families make do with VW Golfs, so you will be fine. |

I'm a father of 3 kids
I was very comfortable using X6 as family car when i had just 2 kids I also had no issues carrying full-size stroller all the time X6 has a bit smaller trunk than X5, but it is still big Most people are even ok with mid-size sedan for 2 kids To me, personally, X6 is the way to go, unless you need 7 seats, which you can get in X5 P.S. My best friend is driving X6 and it's the only car in the household with 2 kids Last edited by AndreyATC; 10-05-2015 at 01:26 PM.. |
