Universal Snap-In Adapter: Smartphone Compatibility Thread
Please list the smartphones that are confirmed to work and not work with the universal snap in adapter. Some of the larger smartphones do not work due to their large size and/or the location of their usb charging port.
If you notice a signal boost in your phone when connected to the adapter, then please state. |

An HTC One M8 will fit but only by making a recess between the hinges of the retaining clip for the micro usb cable to fit and also by modding the cable routing from the top to the side of the unit for where the micro USB cable connects to the bottom of the snap in adapter.
When connected you get full office functionality, read and reply to SMS, emails etc. The phone signal does appear better than when it is not connected to the snap in adapter, more noticeable in marginal areas. |

On another thread, atlantiQue confirmed that the LG G2 did not work with the universal adapter due to the phone length. The member also stated that the Galaxy S5 will not work either due to the length of the phone and the usb port being located at the bottom of the phone.
AtlantiQue mentioned the new Sony Xperia series phones possibly working with the adapter due to its side usb port. Thanks for the suggestion. I have looked into the Xperia Z3 version of this phone, which is quite large as it has a 5.2" screen. With its side usb charging port and thin bezel surrounding the 5.2" screen, it may work well. http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/...features/#tabs Last edited by SUV55; 10-05-2014 at 09:09 PM.. |

Hi.
I know it's .CO.UK but have you checked the BMW site for compatability with your phone: http://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/topics/ow...atibility.html |

As I responded in the other thread. I would say 135mm is max for phones with bottom usb connection and would still give some 2 mm margin for comfortable inserting and taking out of the handset. If you use a phone with USB connection on the side you may safely add 1 cm in length which means 146 mm xperia3 should fit. I have not checked it though, nor have I measured the snap-in adapter accurately.
My LG G2 does not fit by milimeter, literally. However, I am using it usually by putting the handset slightly diagonally so that the bottom USB plug stands out of the adapter. If I put it straight in it (almost) fits, just cannot press it all the way down towards the rubber surface of the adapter.

My adapter just arrived.
Bad image, dark in the car, but my Sony Z1 fits, incl the thin frame/cover on it making it about 2mm longer than the spec. (Spec says 144mm). It lays flat and fine - but very tight - and should not be a millimeter longer. Still have to see how the various functions works. Thanks Bent |

BXdriver...very nice. Thanks for the photo. So it just fits. Hopefully the Z3 will fit. One thing is for certain, the Verizon version of the Z3 will not fit as they made the phone significantly longer and uglier.
What thin profile case are you using? Please let us know how well the Sony works with Idrive. Though I am likely going with the Xperia Z3, I looked at the Iphone 6 plus and liked the form factor, as it was narrow enough to make it manageable. The charging port is on the bottom of the phone so I am not sure if a snap in adapter (non-universal) can ever be made for it. Has anyone heard of an adapter coming for the 6 plus? Or how BMW might be able to make it work with the docking station? Last edited by SUV55; 10-19-2014 at 08:34 AM.. |

Adapter
OK, so now I have a little better understanding of how this adapter works.
My clear misunderstandings...but: 1. I thought the antenna-signals came via the cable. 2. I didn't need to switch on Bluetooth on the phone as it could be controlled via the cable. But no, what is important is that you are able to lay the phone back 100% down on the adapter-plate. That is what improves the signal (slightly, like 1 to 2 signal levels in bad reception areas I have noticed). The cable seems to be only for charging and some communication to the car, like playing music from the phone etc. right? At least, I have been unable to call...without first activating the BT. In a positive way, it also meas that you should be able lay i.e. an iPhone 4 or 5 (or whatever phone that fits) on the plate and get better reception, even being unable to use the charger plug from the adapter itself. Wow, that's news to me. I had no idea signal strength was gained by laying the phone down on the plate. I thought it was from the cable as well. Some kind of signal coupling with the plate and phone. Hmmm.
Gaining 1 to 2 signal bars seems pretty significant. That's good to hear. |

Kinda disappointing, isn't it? No extra functionality compared to a phone connected to the usb with a regular cable and hanging there loose. I probably do not get even the signal strength as mine phone is to long and would not lie flat but 'floats' above the plate. At least it looks nice and finally there is some practical use for the built in part that takes half of the space in this storage compartment.

BXdriver, now that you have had your Xperia phone for a bit, what do you think of it relative to how it integrates with Idrive? Please update us.
I am debating between the Z3 and the Iphone 6+, but I think it will be a long wait, if ever for an adapter to come out for it. |

Phones
Hi there,
Just updating this thread with some images. Here is my Sony Z1 (144mm) without any cover on the adapter-plate. In the car, the cable must actually be in a 100% vertical position up from its hole. As mention earlier - with a thin cover it fits in, but very tightly. Then, a comparison image of the Z1 next to wife's iPhone 6 Plus. The difference here is quite big, but my "out of the air-guess" is that if BMW redesigns the adapter a bit (it should have a charging plug/connector at the end, right) it should be possible to fit the 6 Plus too. Thanks SUV55 Bent |

That's an interesting idea. Maybe someone with a 5/5S could chime in now, as we don't own one. Maybe it's not of much help, but the best I can do is this image - my old 4S on the plate and the different plugs included. The lengthwise distance left from the lower end of the 4S to the "round housing" on the adapter is roughly 30mm... Thanks MattBianco Bent |

Any new regarding a new/redesigned universal adapter or a phone specific adapter that fits larger phones (which are so common these days) ie Samsung Galaxy S5 or Iphone 6+?
At this point what seems to be the consensus of what phone op system is more compatible with the 14/15 X5: Iphone/os 8 or Android? |

@BXdriver , so when u put the phone into the adapter there is a little cable that sticks out and connects to the min usb port of the phone, correct? If so, does it mean that the other end of the cable goes to the usb port of the car?
In general does using a snap in adapter block your usb port, or is it a separate connection. And u can still plig in a usb flash drive for example? Thanks |
