2016 X5 35d - finally took delivery!
I've been following this forum and Bimmerfest for about 6 months now as I searched for a new car. Once I decided on the X5 the forums gave me tons of great info about the various options. Plus, it's fun seeing all of the great pictures.
SHOUT OUT to Bimmerfest founder Jon Shafer! I live in the Bay Area which gives me access to 5 BMW dealers within 30 miles of my house. After working with all of them on a build for a 2015 X5 I decided to give Jon (BMW of Santa Barbara) a call and see what he could do. He was able to beat my best offer on a 2015 by over $1,000 AND IT WAS ON A CUSTOM ORDERED 2016! I don't want to give the specifics of my deal, but if you have the opportunity to purchase a car in Santa Barbara, its worth it. After more than a few back-and-forth emails about options I finally settled on my build. Model:My order was officially placed on November 9th. As most of us know, the 2016 diesels we're delayed for re-certification (thanks VW). I knew I was going to have to wait a while for delivery, but I was willing to wait. When the certification finally came, Jon emailed me with a production number and estimated build date (3rd week of January). Throughout the entire process Jon was great keeping me in the loop as my car progressed along the various build stages. Production began January 21st and the car was delivered at BMW of Santa Barbara on February 9th. Now this is where things got a little tricky. I wanted to have a few modifications done to my car, prior to picking it up. There were a few things that I new I wanted to do to the car, so I really wanted to pick the car up in that condition. For obvious reasons, BMW of Santa Barbara was hesitant to send the car off for modifications before it was purchased. We were able to pull off some paperwork magic (thanks again Jon!) and found a way to get it done. Long story short, the following modifications were made to my car prior to picking it up. Replace the stock front kidney grills with the black ///M onesThe only thing I have left to do s tint the front windows and have Opti-Coat Pro coating installed. So yesterday (February 20th) I flew in to Santa Barbara and met Jon in person to pick up my car. Man, it looks GOOD. genius. Since I've been obsessed with the car for several months I thought I knew how everything worked. The genius did prove to be helpful in a few areas. One of the best parts of buying the car n Santa Barbara was enjoying a sunny, Saturday afternoon drive back home. On to the pictures! |

Tell me more about your car. Is it a daily commute car? Or a weekend kinda of a thing. Is it parked outside or inside a garage? How about cost, do you a specific budget?

I'll post some pictures of our new one shortly but this is my 3rd car with Xpel. It is well worth it. Just did the front bumper, partial hood fenders and mirrors and rocker panels for 1100 bucks. You will appreciate it in a few months when it still looks new. Congrats on the beautiful ride!

Jon is awesome to work with via email as well. I have never met him, but attended multiple Bimmerfests and referred a coworker to him, who bought a 340i and F15 X5. Very happy. I will be buying my next one from him.

Looking great my friend. I wish I lived in Norcal. I feel there are more scenic routes up there than down here in Socal.
