And finally the M badge on the rear is to far from the X5 badge and the 5 and 0 are to close together as is the d.
I'm not disagreeing with anyone's views ..... however the roof rails can be factory ordered that way in Germany (Silver) ..... the side skirts are how they should be (on a German M50d) and it could have been originally 'de-badged' which is a common option in some countries and then had the rear badge added back (if this owner didn't make the factory order). Are the tail pipe trims easy to swap ?

Interesting nevertheless

On the US models the exhaust tips are welded on the muffler so not a easy swap. Slapping on a fake M50D badge is just as bad as putting on a X5M one in my book....

I have the EU spec 40d with m sport pack and my tips are also welded on the muffler.

Badge looks off, but the sure way to tell will be the front bumper cover. If the reflector hole is there then it's not a real 50d.

Here's a real 50d's badge.

The badge your photo looks just like the one I ordered from eBay, when I planned to make my own "X5d" badge. It is not chrome. The one yesterday was chrome.

I am going to find this import or imposter. It is very close to me.

The front brake calipers will tell you if its a real M50d, they are massive on the front.

Certifying costs a lot which is why not all cars i.e. small production supercars can be brought to USA (think of Porsche 959 that Bill Gates has).

I have friends in Japan who tried hard to take their NSX Type R and other JDM cars back to USA when they relocated and just gave up.
Exactly. And to add to what you said, vehicles that are newer than 25 years old will not be allowed through U.S. Customs. I imported our DEFENDER from the U.K., back in 2012. I know the song and dance very well.

A non resident can import a vehicle for up to one year even if it doesn't conform to US standards ..... at 12 months it has to conform or be exported (or destroyed)

Actually I've seen a lot of Bmw, Audi, VW guys around that likes to put a euro plate under the U.S. one. It's like a "mod" for them and they strangly think it looks good....

In the old days it was the elliptical shaped German plates beginning with the letter "Z".

I have circled half the neighborhood. I will find it by this weekend. I've gotten to know the the local dealer's GM and he confirmed they have not serviced a m50d ever.

It's a fake. I've actually seen this vehicle parked and had a chat with the owner.

The exhaust is wrong. The wheels are wrong. The roof rails are wrong. The mirrors are wrong. The badging is wrong. The taillights are US-spec.

And on and on and on...

Mattbianco, it sounds like you're putting in a lot of effort into this. I would have of just let it ago because there are so many signs it's a fake

I've followed some of wdimagineer F10 / F10 M5 posts. He hates fakes and replicas so I'll take his word on this one.

License plate matched. It is a sheep in wolf's clothing. No m brakes, no m50d grills. no side badges. mostly, no m50d engine under the bonnet.

I feel like such a snoop but I have wanted to see one upfront for a while.

Also side mirrors should be grey as well, not white.
